Last summer I mounted an older JD (motorola) fender radio on my 4600 compact. While stationary the reception was adequate. However, when I moved the tractor the reception was poor. I was wondering if the ROPS was blocking the signal when I turned the tractor. The radio has a new antenna and works fine on the garden tractor (no rops). Any thoughts on whether the ROPS is the culprit? If so, any thoughts on a cure?

By the sounds you have found the problem.
Would the antenna be w/in 10 or 12 inches from the ROPS,also have you tried and relocate the radio for a better signal.

The new antenna would that be rubber coated and somewhere in the area of 8 inches tall, also you can now purchase antenna w/something like a booster in it.

Would the radio be AM&FM...try FM and see if the signal better.

I mounted a newer radio next to the ROPS of my Kubota. The antenna is about 1 inch from the ROPS and I dont have any reception problems with FM. I have not tried AM. My antenna is the short type with the plastic/rubber coating.
