Acorns do not need to be frozen to make them sprout. If you don't collect them soon after they fall off the tree, you will see them beginning to sprout several days after falling (if the squirrels or boring creatures don't get to them first).

Actually it's better to store them in the refrigerator than the freezer if you plan on planting them in the Spring rather than the Fall.
