Raising Pet Chickens

   / Raising Pet Chickens #21
When I was a kid, one of my classmates brought in a fertilized egg for each kid in my class. When they hatched, we got to take them home. My rooster's name was "Charlie". I lived in town so he was kind of an odd pet. He roosted on our patio and roamed the neighborhood during the day. The local Coop would poor free feed in a small paper bag for me when I stopped by. He followed me everywhere or rode on my shoulder or on my bicycle handlebars. We won 2nd prize in the town's pet parade. When I got home on the bus, you could see him running full speed to meet me. We were best buddies until he got too mean toward other people and we had to send him to a friend's farm to live out his days.
