Ram 1500 first modern half ton to offer diesel

No brand is perfect. At the same time each brand has produced single trucks that have far surpassed expectations.

It's the innovators that will sell trucks. And that is what Ram is doing by bringing a small displacement, modern turbo diesel to the half ton market.

These threads always crack me up. I'm with crashz, how about we just be happy with the innovation that is happening around us? We are fortunate enough to be living through times of amazing truck innovation. I have owned, been issued and operated Ford, GM and Chrysler and EACH of them had issues. They all have strengths too. Does everyone have so much of themselves invested in their trucks that it becomes a personal insult when someone chooses a different brand then you? I'm glad that even though I have some slight preferences I'm not loyal to any brand. I think that philosophy has saved me a bunch of money over the years.

People on here don't seem to get that. If you try point that out with proven facts then you get called a basher. I don't care what kind of vehicle or tractor someone else has. If they are happy with it I am glad for them.

I've seen you point out the so called facts on Dodge. I know a guy that knows a guy that had tranny problems, etc, but I haven't seen you point out any facts on the Ford. I can find them for you if you can't

So it is a bad truck because you think it MIGHT need repairs by 75k.

I guess he knows those trucks,I knew a guy that knew a guy that had motor problems in a Ford at 75K

Up here in Ontario Canada diesel fuel and regular gas are almost the same price , most of the time diesel is a few cents cheaper and in summer sometimes up to ten cents cheaper per litre (3.78 litres per USA gallon for you folks doing the math.)

So us Canadians are excited to see this Dodge 6 cyl Diesel ! I can see myself trading in my 2008 Dodge Ram Hemi 4x4 if all goes well ! A 4x2 with positrack and a good set of studded tires for winter would be all that was needed for me. Hope they don't load them up with $ options and give us some choices.

I would like to have seen Dodge put a small Cummin's in the new 1500, but anything is better than nothing. As more diesel powered vehicles come to the market, more manufactures will want to offer diesels in everything from other 1/2 ton trucks to small cars and trucks. I think this will only help diesels progress quicker and give us better choices and better mileage in the future. Also in the long run it could help stabilize the cost of diesel fuel and help us see a long term reduction in the cost of a gallon of fuel.

I'm not understanding your thought. How would increasing demand for diesel bring lower prices? Wouldn't the opposite be true? More diesel engines would drive up demand, increasing price. Correct me if I misunderstood.

For me my 4 GM vehicle's seemed to be a royal pain in the ***** to work on. Stupid oil filter placement, crappy wiring and electrical woes, removing motor mounts to change a belt, removing 1/2 the motor accesories to change a wiper motor or squirrel cage on a blower motor, ect. You guys can have them and support a bail out government owned company.

I will give you the motors and trannys seem to be about the best eventhough I had my 4.3 blow up at less than 30,000 miles and my transfer case give up 3,000 miles later which seems to be a trend with GM trucks. Its the little nickel and dime poor electrical system woes that turned me away.

07 tundra 5.7L. Royal pain to change the oil filter. On top of that ,Toyota uses a plastic housing for the cartridge.Very soon the plastic housing will give way to aluminum
