RAM 5500 Pickup

Correct, but the implication from diamond pilot was that Ford is already making a p/u version. Dodge has been making a 5500 cab/chassis, maybe not known to DP because they don't spend as much time in the repair shop, forums or boat magazines. :)

I seen the?My bad! Guess it was one of the smart question/answers I didnt catch:laughing: I like the Ford 450/550,just scared of the powerstroke.I would like to have A 4x4 crew/cab ford 450 with chevy's interior and a cummins.I have 8500 miles on mine my ride.JPG and just got it out for a minor fix(some kinda heater relay),none are like they use to be anymore.

I guess im just cheap cause I didnt wonna spend 9,000 more, for the Ford with same options..

Ford has a standard 550 p/u?

No, just a 450 variant. As said, the Dodge has been manufactures as a Cab and Chassis for a few years in 4500 and 5500 series.

They all spend time in the repair shops. I have 2 friends right now with Dodges in the shop. One with the plastic inter-cooler blown apart and another for fuel related issues. They are blaming water in the fuel.

Why am I not surprised that you always seem to have a "friend" with a non-Ford vehicle in the shop...
And at 37.5k GCWR, it's not competiton it's domination. BTW, same frame thats rated at 26k on the cab-chassis trucks which you like to claim has a low GCWR due to weaker frames than Ford...

This story of a "long hauler" pickup truck based on a RAM 5500 cab-chassis came out back in December 2011 and now Pickup Trucks is testing one according to their Facebook page. Welcome to Facebook - Log In, Sign Up or Learn More

GCWR - 37.5k (blowing by Ford's 33k rating)
Dry weight - 9300 lbs
Tow capacity could be upwards of 27k lbs!
Three fuel tanks totaling 170 gallons.
No word on tranny but it's got to retain the Aisin 6 speed and 800 ft.-lb version of the Cummins.

Could this be the start of a new lineup of RAM 4500/5500 pickup trucks?

Seems to me that if you want to tow that much weight, you'd be money and capacity ahead to buy an IH or Freightshaker that was actually made to handle that kind of load, and last ten times as long instead of buying a beefed up pickup.

It would be nice to see some competition in that segment for Ford.

Chris,I have to comment on this.I have owned a 2004 dodge cummins diesel,2011 ford F250 superduty 6.2 gas(just sold)and now a 2006 ford F-150.I love ford trucks but until they can build a dependable diesel engine like the cummins or duramax they will be in deep crap. The new ford 6.7 diesel is still in the growing pains process that is the reason I bought my 6.2 gasser verses the diesel option.coobie

To be fair I know of a 05 6.0L Ford getting APR Head Studs right now and a EGR delete. Ran hard for 152,000 miles with a chip. Tows 13,000# every day for work.

I also know a guy with a 06 Dmax getting a Turbo replaced. No chip, 86,000 miles. Tows 7,000# max.

None of them are perfect.

Show me where I said a Dodge had a weaker frame???? GM prior to this year, yes, but not Dodge. I have only complained about Dodge Auto Trannys and rust issues.

Very few people I know that bought a RAM truck has ever bought second one. The Air Conditioning is always marginal, Transmission issues everywhere, Front steering wonders on the road. The cummins diesel is about the only good thing there is to talk about. Trouble is you can't buy just the engine. They look cool, I'll give them that, but that's where it stops.
If Ford signed a deal with Cummins, it's all over for the RAM trucks. Just my opinion.

These are not beefed up pickups, they are full 5 series trucks with big truck hardware.. The F550 scales at 7200lbs empty.

For those of you lusting after one of these things, a quick test drive would change your mind. They ride like they have no suspension at all.
