Has anyone tried using a Ram X mount to hold their cell phone while doing some tractor work? I seen one on a motorcycle and wondered how well it would work on a open cab.

We used the intelliskin and mounts in our vehicles. They were a disaster with several warranty problems and replacements.
If I was in an open cab I don’t think they make a product that I would trust to leave the phone “out”

Do you have a specific need to have it out- as opposed to a pocket or little box.

Put the cell phone in a jacket pocket. If I EVER bring my cell phone with me, when I leave the house - put it in one of the many cup holders in my vehicle( Ram Power Wagon). I've never had a reason - good or otherwise - to bring the cell with me on the tractor.

I truly enjoy being out on the tractor and "off the grid". I will try to remember to turn my cell phone on every evening. See if any messages were left - that are worth returning.

Accidents happen, may be nice to be able to call for help. Sure there are no guarantees you could, but it would be quite awhile before anyone would decide to come look for me. Last incident I had with no phone available, I was 5 miles from home working a rental field and got a flat. That was a long walk kicking rocks.

ddbackhoe - that's a good and valid point you make. It's just that I come from the '40's. The only phone was the wooden box( farmer's phone ) hanging on the kitchen wall. We made whatever calls had to be made before leaving the house. You, hopefully, understood the dangers involved in any project and acted accordingly.

It's a hard habit to break. I know my son keeps telling me - "dad, take the dam phone with you". Because I just purchased a brand new Ram Power Wagon - I also had to upgrade my old Samsung flip phone. I now have an Apple iPhone XR. Thank God - the thing DOES make/receive phone calls.

I'm just glad I have this Apple computer to type on. Sending messages on the new phone is no real pleasure. These old gnarled, sore hands find the tiny keyboard a real chore. I'm still trying to figure out the 30 or so software programs on the new phone. Along with all the programs on the digital display on the Power Wagon.

You know - - the old days weren't really so bad........

Rneuman I put mine in my pocket and listen to music with ear phones. I also live down the road from my parents with health issues so I like to know that I’m a phone call away if they need anything.
It would be nice though if I could look down and ignore an incoming call from a telemarketer vs stopping the tractor, idle down and dig in my pocket to see who’s calling.

When on the Ford an its cold, I have a jacket with front pocket. When its hot I have a large leather phone case with belt loops and I carry to the front similar to a fanny pack. Keeping it on the front side seems to stay paired with my bluetooth over the ear phones.

In the cab, I just leave it in one of the cup holders.

To answer your question, I have three of those mounts in use and they do work-- mounted on atvs though.

They work fine. If they can hold a gps on a jet ski, they can definitely hold a phone on a tractor.

The best I’ve seen is a ziplock bag for the phone. I’d try one of the suction cup style that you could stick to the hood right in front of the steering wheel.
Also note that if you change ring tones for calls you would take while on the tractor (a setting in the person’s contact info) you would hear a different ring when they call. ie- wife, kids and parents get bing bong and everyone else gets ring ring. This different sound would play through your headphones- no need to look.

Btw- we’ve tried may other cases- none I’ve seen work to keep dust out. Honestly the ziplock works and saves a lot of money and disappointment
