Ecoboosts are returning 15 mpg on average. One less than the 5.0. This diesel will kill it in fuel economy.

My father's with 3.73 gears and 4x4 has turned in 18.3 mpg average. I get about 23 mpg at 60 mph.

Fuel economy means nothing. It's cost per mile.

That would be on the VERY high side of normal. Fwiw I can pull 24 with my Hemi at 60, 21 at 75. The diesel will excel at city numbers, in addition to returning high twenties on the highway. If the resale and demand remains high, your actual running costs will be almost halved. That's allot of money in your pocket.

When towing, the gas engine needs to be revved high

You obviously haven't driven and don't understand how the EcoBoost works. I doesn't need to rev to make the torque to keep the truck going, empty or towing.

$2800 more than the Hemi and higher fuel cost equal no cost benefit. 9 second 0-60 empty equals no performance benefit.

Those who purchase this would do so for the novelty and bragging rights for MPG.

One would need to drive a lot of highway miles to justify the cost. Not saying I wouldn't want one if I had a money tree because it would be neat to own.

You cannot be serious. Trade that machine in now for a gasser if that's the case.

Have you driven a post 2007 emissions equipped machine? My type of city driving (3 miles to take the kids to school and 3 miles back home - I work from home) is horrible for the DPF-equipped trucks.

Yes, my diesel gets worse city mileage than the gasser I had before it. Granted, I'm comparing an F250 diesel to an F150 gasser, but still, I'm reasonably sure I could get just as well with a V10 truck as I do with my 6.4L diesel in city numbers.

If my diesel didn't tow so dam well and put a smile on my face when I hook my fifth wheel to it, I'd trade it for a gasser in a heartbeat. Thankfully, I only drive 7500+/- miles a year, so fuel costs aren't that big of a deal to me.

come on, really.... Do you think the extra 2000 lbs of mass had anything to do with it.

Oh, I'm sure it did, and really, I accounted for that. Do you think an extra 2k lbs of mass would account for a 25% drop in fuel economy? I don't. If a diesel did truly "excel in city numbers", then the numbers should be pretty close going from an F150 gasser to F250 diesel, right? That "excel" part should make up for the weight penalty, no?

As I said, V10 gasser F250 numbers are right near what my F250 diesel gets. My type of driving is just horrible on diesel fuel economy, especially with the newer emissions equipment. My F250 will beat my F150 in highway mileage, though, but not near enough to make up for the 30% penalty in fuel costs.
