What good is that self leveling suspension? If it adds significant weight to an already class failing payload what weight will it be leveling? I have never seen a payload that low even in a car.

Well you check out a Ford Limited F150 then.

I'll help.

It's 1300 lbs before you start adding any options. Huh. That seems a little low...

So it ends up at more than double the Ram's? See why we are saying the Ram's is low?

The RAM in the article starts at 1100 lbs, before you add options.

Would be awfully helpful if GM and Ford would publish the Payload ratings of their different trim levels, like RAM does.

You're comparing it to an F150 Limited? The Limited already has nearly every option included. That's why the payload "starts" so low on it compared to other F150's, because it's a pig when it comes to 'options included'.

You may want to brush up on your specs by reading this. Go to the second-last page.

The Ford SuperCrew starts at 1520 lbs for the EcoBoost 4x4. 1700 for the 5.0 4x4. Get the max trailer tow package and bump the numbers up to 1900/1930. Get the HD payload package and add another 400.

I have seen several stickers on loaded F150 SuperCrews with payload ratings of 1200-1400 lbs WITHOUT the HD payload package.

Face it, the payload on the Ram is pathetic at < 500 lbs. Seriously, you cannot even fill the cab with adults without being overloaded! Don't like my numbers for Ford? Look at GM.

Oh, and just wait for the '15 F150 when it comes out with 700 more lbs of payload due to dropping 700 lbs of weight.

Agreed. There's not much you can add to a Limited!

This, folks, is the real issue with the Ram EcoDiesel: 2014 Annual Physical: Braking - PickupTrucks.com Special Reports

490 lbs! I'm not big in the 'my numbers are bigger than yours, so my truck is better' game, but this is ridiculous. How are you supposed to tow the 8k lbs if you only have room for < 300 lbs of tongue weight after putting yourself and the hitch in your truck? Granted, it's a fully-loaded version, but still!

I hate to agree, but a 7% of total weight max payload is downright silly. I don't think I've ever know of any motorized vehicle that can only have 7% of it own weight added as a max. Something's not right.:confused2:

So that Ram has a tow rating of 8200lbs, and only a 490lb payload rating. Figuring for a 200lb driver and nothing else in the truck, and 15% tongue weight, that reduces the max trailer weight to 1900lbs. Can you imagine the guy who buys it, thinking he will tow his TT with his new diesel truck?

Hey at least the diesel can haul it's own additional weight.
