Ramps for your ramps?

I bought mine at Trout Trailer in Conroe Texas. I think they have a local shop make them for them as that is the only name on it and they are fabbed elsewhere from the sales office.

Gary, you trailer looks a lot like mine. I may just have to try a couple of different things. My 2010 Challenger has a recall and I haven't decided where I'm taking it. I trust the dealer I bought it at more than the local dealer. They might even get me a loaner, but I may trailer it and drop it off also.
What was the recall for on your trailer?

The recall is for my Dodge Challenger, a car, not the trailer.

How tall are your guys trailers? My deck is only 14" from the ground sitting level. 5' ramps are perfect.

Chris

According to the manufacturers specs my deck height is 22" and I have a 2' dove tail with 5' ramps.

I have a 16 foot with a 2 foot dove tail car trailer. It has the ramps that slide into the back of the trailer. I'm pretty sure if I have to haul a car on it depending on how low it is to the ground, the nose of the car may hit the ramp before the wheels start up the ramp. I've seen where people have put wood, such as a couple of 2 foot long pieces of 2x8 under the ramps to reduce the loading angle. I also have a couple of ramps for getting the car up in the air for and oil change. I thought about putting these under the ends of the trailer ramps but they seem like they would be to tall. Anybody have a good plan or setup for this situation?

I have seen people back the tow vehicles rear wheels on to ramps to get a better loading angle, I am not sure if it is a good idea though.

This is my second trailer. First was a deck over with a Dove-tail and stand up ramps. Looked cool but very impractical. My next/current trailer is a low boy. Makes life so much easier with slide in ramps. 14" deck height is nice. I can just step on it and loading vehicles is a breeze.

I was hopping someone would have a solution to this problem.

Most open car trailers here have a deck height over 20''. My car would go on my previous trailer when the trailer had 14'' wheels but I upgraded them to 15'' wheels and lowered the car and it would not go. I can get my car on my current trailer if it is on level ground and I use the jack to pick the front up and back the car on, but it takes it all. It is a pain backing a car on a trailer. The trailer I have now the ramps store underneath and you put them on a lip on the back. I have plenty of room to store a set of ramps 1' longer. I can take my ramps on sit them on the rub rail and load over the side I want.

I've backed my trailer up to a small hill when loading cars. Parking lots with curbs work as well.

I picked up my sons car and bike in Ohio to bring home for winter storage. We had to find a shopping center front sidewalk to drive the car onto trailer. We tried sitting truck and trailer in a big dip so rear of trailer was as close to the ground it folded the tag under but the front of his car sits about 3" off the ground so it almost has to be flat. Loading the old Jeep Cherokee is no problem, or the BX1870. I think I also need longer ramps or the race ramps as stated.

What I've seen people do is just cut a couple of 2x10's, one shorter than the other and put those under the bottom of the ramps to reduce the loading angle. If you get fancy you bevel the leading edge to help the car climb over the edge of the board.
