Wifey informed me that a man near here was working on his tractor's clutch today, and the tractor ran over him twice. Apparently he was under the tractor with the engine running and the left brake locked down. He must have knocked it into gear or something, and the tractor did two circles over him before anyone could do anything to stop it. At last report earlier today he was in the hospital in critical condition. He is 71, but you'd never believe he was past his mid-50's. Nice guy, darn shame. Please don't do anything that would result in a post like this about you. He didn't get up this morning planning on doing something careless. One brainphart is all it takes.................chim

Chim,

Thanks for the reminder.

We all get use to these machines and it tends to make us careless.

Had a neighbor years ago that got run over twice also. Best I can remember, he was turning around in the field and was messing with something on the tractor. He hit a bump, rock, log or something. Next thing he knew the tractor had run over his foot and he couldn’t get up on it. He had the steering cut tight and the tractor ran over him again and broke his hip. You never know when an accident will take place. Always be careful.

Re: Ran over himself....twice (UPDATE)

I heard the old fella is at home and has "mended" quite well, considering the abuse he took............chim

Re: Ran over himself....twice (UPDATE)

A 6 year old boy that is in my daughters first grade class, was riding with his dad a few days ago and apparentely jumped (or fell) off the tractor before it stopped and was crushed by the rear wheels and then the manure spreader. Not sure of many of the details, except he was crushed pretty badly in his legs. Fortunately, it appears that nothing is life-threatening at this point, but unfortunately he is expected to be in the hospital for weeks and they are not sure if he will walk again...very very sad. (and very close to home). He may even lose his legs.

I ride with my kids all the time, and I am sure I won't stop, but I sure will remember to be even more careful...it all can happen so fast.

Apparently his dad is devasted and tormented with guilt over the whole thing. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif (which is not hard to understand)

I NEVER let the kids ride on any of the small tractors.
They can ride in the big trators w/ cab or the combine which
has an extra seat.
I let the kids ride on my big hoe because of really large fenders to sit on but never on any of the dozers.

Re: Ran over himself....twice (UPDATE)

They would have to be in my lap with the set belt around both of us. They can't jump or fall out that way.

Well...ok...yea the little buggers can be wiggle worms and get out. But you can stop before they get to far or out. Always go slow.
