Stained it all up and walla! A log cabin is born from the old Slanty-Shanty /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Still have to do the window surrounds (cut them all today) and figure out how to get that white paint off the rocks in front. I will be capping the rocks with used 1/2 brick and sealing them to bring all the natural colors out. No shortage of rocks around here /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif All those came from the property itself. Time to put that new tractor to work on some grading and fencing. Maybe install a crushed rock driveway to start, but hope to put a cement slab at least under the carport area. The addition will have to wait, as I'm not going to attack that one on my own...

Thanks for look'n. Hope you enjoyed the tour so far! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

"Quigley Sharpes" over the fireplace... boy do I wish! My father has some old ones, that's for sure, but I don't know what they are /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Some have the 6 or 8 sided barrels. One of his pistols looks like something a pirate would have used.

No elk here, but we do have deer and ocational mountain lions. Years ago there were bear here too, but not any more. As a child ('60's) I hunted bobcat and rabbits here. When my father was a child he hunted deer with a bow. The only pigs I know of were the old time pig farmers. One of the auto racing families started out as pig farmers in this area. I want to say the Andretti's (???), but I'm not sure if that is the right family /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Whoever it was, was involved in trash pickup as well. Free feed? The area is fast becoming very equestrian with a few housing projects moving in. I fear even the deer will soon be gone... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Most impressive effort on your part! The history tour was very enjoyable. Thank you very much for this. As for getting that paint off, would you consider sand blasting it? A power washer may also be very effective and not as harsh on the stone, although care should be taken with the mortar, as the washer will deteriorate it.....Thanks again for this look at a bit of nostalgia...

Yuh done good Roy, I might have passed that place a few times. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif But I've got to admit I didn't notice it.
Them folks with the pig farm were the Agajanians. One of the boys had a junk yard, and Ascot Park. Sponsored Parnelli Jones at Indy.
I used to work with a couple of your neighbors, but there are so many now in Sand Canyon, you probably never met any of them.
It is a strange place, old homesteads and vacation cabins, along side of new mansions and upscale housing tracts.
Give my regards to the waitress at the resturant.

Very nice tour! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks for inviting us along. What a neat thing, to have such a colorful history to be able to continue to build on! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nice looking place.

In the first picture, what's the blue truck with the white roof in the right parking area?

Thanks for the correction on the racing family (Agajanian's, ex-pig farmers I believe?). I guess I mixed up Andretti and his pet pig /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Since you stomped these grounds years ago, that waitress most have been at the Halfway House on Sierra Highway or Solamint Store & Cafe (James Dean's last meal/stop prior to pulverizing his Porsche Spyder on the way to a race) /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Then again, it could be the Weigh Station in Newhall or that historic place that was in your neck of the woods in Saugus near HWY 126 and the Old Road??? (can't remember the name of that one)

Did I get close? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

CALIFORNIA my man! North Los Angeles County near the Ventura County boarder. The easiest landmark for people to get a bearing on location is the Six-Flags Magic Mountian Theme Park in Valencia (AKA: Wally World in Fanily Vacation). I'm about 10-15 miles northeast of that.

"Big Blue" is a 4x4 1968 International Travelall. I bought her last year originally as a parts truck for my Travelall fleet (ha, ha, ha...) I own three 60's International Travelall's now. If you look closely at the trap structure next to the house, you will see the nose of my 1965 Travelall work-horse and Home Deput runner peaking out. Next to that is a 4x4 1972 Travelall with hefty 392 that will be the donor truck for a body swap from the '65. I've installed a '72 Chevy 3/4 ton Dana 4x4 disc brake front axle and 1 ton Corporate 14-bolt 10.5" rear axle. Found a set of brand new take-off 2003 Hummer H2 wheels and tires for her. Under the trap out of view is my 1966 Internatinal Travelall 2wd 304V8 auto completely original with all the options of the day (sparce by today's standards though). I hope to sell that one to a restorer next year after I get the master cylinder back on to raise cash for the ranch house project.

As you can tell, I have a weakness for 60's International Travelalls. Love the classic Nomad style wrap-around rear quarter windows and high roof lines. International built things to last a long time. No frills, just function and utility...

I've found that International Light Line folks ARE generally tractor folks. The International West Regional's are held in conjunction with a Tulure, CA tractor event each April. Attached a closer photo of "Big Blue" for you /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
