Everyone has their favorites... here's one of mine, which lives an easy life in retirement at my place after nearly 60 years of work.

Beautiful. Just simply beautiful.

If looks have anything to do with sales/popularity, you'd have to give a nod to the Farmall H/M series, and the JD 4020 and 4440. As I recall, these are among the most popular tractors ever sold.

Another favorite of mine is the 1953 NAA Ford-I'm partial to that one because my Grandfather had one. Spent a lot of time on it when I was younger....Still wish I could.

Seems like several of our favorites where designed by Raymond Loewy.

My favorites are John Deere and Kubota, in that order.
I'm sure they are all pretty good, except the Chinese (break in half) made ones, IMHO

For extra small tractors (SCUT), I like an early 50's Farmall Cub, For small ones (CUT) a Ford 8n, for mid-size open-station, I think a late 60's JD 4020 looks best, and for cabbed mid-size, a mid-80's JD 4440. These tractors not only looked good, but also significantly outclassed most of the competition in performance, which goes a long ways towards their perceived "good looks". It was a lot more than "skin deep", as evidence by their popularity, as working machines, to this day. Today's tractors all look pretty similar and there are none designed since the late 80's that look or perform better than the rest of the field by as wide of a margin as those (4) models of the old days. If I had to pick a "best" of those (4), it would probably be the 8n, and I mean the original. Obviously someone at NH thinks the same way or they would not have introduced a model with so much "looks" influence from the original.

I cannot find the production numbers....which I have seen.....but I am quite certain the Ford N series tractors out-sold any other tractor model by a huge margin. Those M's and H's and B's are good sellers....but not near the numbers of the little N Fords. Those 4020's and such don't even come close. (if I'm on the right page) As far as looks....the sales numbers look pretty good over at those old N's. (grin)

I think tractors of the last 10 years all too much alike , I like the squareness of 1980's tractors.

Always had a soft spot for the old Muir-hills too and i think the designation 6 versatiles are the best looking articulated tractor .

According to tractor data

8n's.........................524,000
2n's..........................NA
9n's........................99,002

JD 4020...................184,879

Farmall H..................391,227
Farmall M..................270,140

The M's and H's were popular, allthough not as much as the N fords.

And I wouldn't even consider the 4020 in the same ballpark as the N's as far as sales #'s are concerned.
