I treat these babies like gold.

I've got a couple more not pictured. We're rural here and don't have curb or curbside trash pickup and we bring our trash to a town dumpster at a "transfer station". I feel like I've won the lottery everytime a find a can that's missing a spout or cap.👍

It ended up being dozens of cases, not just that initial one. The premise was that it happened so often that they should have put a flame arrester in the spout, but didn't.
While that may well have been the results, it don't make it right... Just sayin

Got to love those "safety spouts " with the little hook on the bottom that allows the spout to open when it's pushed down, then it buckles under the weight of the full can....
Or comes off completely. I have several of those. The first thing I do is cut the tab off which you're supposed to push so that the spout will go down and start letting the gas trickle out.

For my chainsaw gas I mix it in a two gallon can, then transfer some of that into a one gallon can. I can pout that from the open container, without a spout or funnel. I sometimes spill a little, but nowhere near as much as when using the "Safety Spout".

I thought blue for kerosene...
I've always thought - Yellow for Diesel fuel, Red for Gasoline, Green or Blue for water.
My father had a couple of old green Jerry cans and a couple of metal ones which he used for all different fuels and always knew what was in them. I don't know how... I have (2) two gallon cans out in the truck. One has mixed gas the other is straight. Both of them are no ethanol though...

I've had an automatic shutoff pump for a couple years now. I only use it for filling the Deere since the filler cap is about 5' off the ground.
I just set it on the tailgate of the truck, hook the nozzle to the filler and hit the button.
So far, it's been quite reliable

Just take hacksaw and cut the spout off and plug it. You can also buy a many piece kit at a farm store to go old style with the plastic cans.

I've said it a hunred times and will say it again. 90% of problems in the world can be traced to overpopulation or lawyers. Were it not for lawyers, gas cans would look the same today as 50 years ago. Someone mentioned Blitz above. They were bankrupted by an idiot that splashed gas from a Blitz can onto a bonfire and his lawyer. He didn't splash gas on his lawyer, just the fire.😜
Too bad he didn't get the lawyer too...

Moss - I DO like your "electric gas can" idea. How do you keep the intake from sucking off the bottom of the gas can. I'm always concerned about crud and water that might be on the bottom of my Jerry cans. The last quart or so goes into a separate can and is poured thru a "water funnel".

I refilled the M6040 yesterday after using the LPGS on my "mud hole" on the driveway. It doesn't take much to top off the fuel tank. But lifting a full Jerry can - 'bout all this old man can do any more.

I've never had an issue with water or dirt in gas cans in the 45-50 years I've been using gas cans. I've been using 87 octane E10 since the mid 80's. I've never had an ethanol-related problem with any of my equipment. It's probably because I turn the gas over regularly, and try to follow the manufacturers recommendations on fuel storage. The only exception is the generator, which I treat with Stabil, and my new chainsaw, which requires higher octane fuel.

The longest my gasoline sits in cans is about the 5 months over the winter, if I don't have to plow much snow (which has been happening the past few years). The cans are plastic, and sealed pretty well. I do not have that can I showed, but I do have a battery powered pump I got from harbor freight. It works surprisingly well. So no pouring required. I use it mostly when the 6 gallon cans are full and my back is sore. Once I get the level down to just a couple gallons, it's easier to pour.
