Rant on shipping

Ordered a Curt hitch from Etrailer about two weeks ago. Free shipping, I think I had ordered it on a Friday, came on Tuesday, one day early via UPS!

My FedEx deliveries have been getting better. My road is actually and easement and was not on GPS when we bought this place three years ago. People are telling me that it is showing up on their GPS lately so perhaps that is helping. Prior to that I would get notices that my product had been delivered, not! I did not find FedEx's website for complaints to be very helpful.

A little after 630 Friday morning, USPS Informed Delivery showed two packages bouncing back and forth between distribution centers about 100 miles away. At that point, it showed both were scheduled for delivery Saturday, as it had for the past few days. By 930 Friday,I had both packages. I checked ID again just to see what it showed. They had skipped all of the normal scans between there and here (usually about 6-8) and went straight from one of the DCs to 'Delivered'.

I'm getting everything as scheduled, in town. Amazon can even be days earlier than listed.

But out at the ranch, when I bought a ROPS it disappeared in transit. UPS listed it delivered. A week later I found it hidden in tall weeds halfway from the lane to the house.

This has happened before and happening to me right now. I've been ordering direct from vendors or ebay but made the mistake of using amazon again. It finally shipped yesterday from KC warehouse. Amazon tracking shows it arrived in St Lou this am and will be here tomorrow. I cut n paste that same number in USPS and it hasn't left KC.
So amazon has better tracking of USPS than USPS?

I had that happen to me once with a Buck knife I had ordered for a fantastic price. They kept showing it getting closer and closer right up to the arrival date- but when I went to my mailbox it wasn’t there. They then started the countdown again, but after a week or so admitted they didn’t know where it was and gave me a refund. I suspect that it never left the POB... either somebody needed a good knife or more likely, suddenly realized they were losing money on it.

As of this moment, USPS tracking still shows:

TODAY

Expected Delivery
by 8:00 PM

I get my mail by 1030 most every day. I got my normal mail by 930 today. I'm pretty sure this package ain't coming today.

Amazon is still playing games and lying to us. The Wife ordered a Bread machine a month ago, several hours before daughter in law ordered the exact same unit. We don't even have a ship date yet and daughter received hers today. You would think "first come, first served" Not! Got torqued off and cancelled the bread machine and the unit disappeared from their website completely. A few minutes later it popped back up and we reordered and this time got a ship-by date. This is Prime but I'm not holding my breath. Getting tired of the Baloney.

I buy and also ship stuff both domestically and internationally. UPS can't track packages after they leave our borders to Asia/Europe.

Also since COVID started disrupting things, delivery promises aren't as good as they were prior... hopefully this isn't the new normal. I still find Amazon Prime to be pretty accurate but often the two day delivery isn't offered..

As far as signatures upon receipt our UPS and FEDEX folks just have you tell them your name and they set the package on the ground trying to maintain the 6ft. Also it seems there are a lot of independent contractors in private vehicles making deliveries to us lately as well. Only seen this at Xmas time. I think shipping companies are struggling with COVID more than we maybe know. There has been some scrutiny of Amazon's operations due to employee complaints but the company is not divulging much.
