I use ultrasonic rodent/pest repellers in my shop and tractor shed. They sure got rid of the mice not sure about rats though, have not seen any of those before or after installing the rodent repellers.

Well, for awhile I have moved the tractor back to the ranch house, so at least the same rat won't be back. Do you think an ultrasonic device will work in a shed with three open sides?
A few months ago I had a terrible case of owl excrement all over my tractor, including the instrument panel. Someone remarked at the time that at least it kept the rats and mice away. The owl cleanup was probably more hassle than fixing the wires, but of course rats can do much more damage than I suffered this time. The owl left on its own, anyway, so it's not like I had a choice.
In case anyone ever needs to know, I used NAPA bullet connectors (part #784467), marked 22-14 Ga. They fit perfectly, but I had to trim the plastic insulating housing.

Yes, I believe the ultrasonic repellers will work ok in an open shed. You just point them right. They broadcast a cone forward of themselves. Pretty much just point them at what you want protected, with nothing in between to block the sound. You could even put one on an extension cord and put it somewhere on the tractor.
Converted another friend to using the ultrasonic repellers a few weeks ago, he has seen NO mice or evidence there of since installing the repellers.

Those connectors look a bit special. If you can't find any try gently prying them open enough to get the old wire out and new wire in re-crimp and then solder them for good measure. Using heat shrink to protect them.... I've had good luck with that methode in a pinch... With a JR and a cat and 2 new kittens rats are not a real problem close to the house.... unless you count the carcusses every where.... Why she has to show off her kill by leaving it on the deck is rather anoying....

I have used the electronic repellers also.
Some do not make much noise, some none at all.
The one I have that seems to work the best was like ~$30, if memory serves and its noisy. Made by Black & Decker.

Runs me off too, but it seems to work.
This would be no good at all if you or your pets will be nearby since it will drive off just about anyone or any thing for that matter.
But out in a shed it would work well. Maybe run it continous for a week or two to run of the pests, and then set it up on a timmer. A timmer with a random setting should keep rodents from setting up house nearby.

Brewster my father taught me a trick years ago about leaving a radio turned on in the pole barn to scare off rodents and discourage vandalism. Since I built my pole barn years ago a FM radio has always been playing easy rock in the background and I haven't had a minutes problem with critters or otherwise.

I got some First Alert brand at Sams a week or so ago for a friend and had to try them out for a week or so before I gave them to him /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif They have 2 settings one for rodents and some pests, which no one I know of can hear. The other setting also supposedly runs off many bugs and mosquitoes. They do make an annoying whine on that setting and seem to have a limited effect on repelling mosquitoes. Does work a bit, but there must be quite a few deaf mosquitoes out these, cause all of them do not leave /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The other 2 brands of repellers I have bought at sams for rodents are cheap 4 or 5 for under $20, and no one can hear them, but they DO run off the mice, seem to help on bugs, and my cats oe dogs do not mind them, but hate the mosquito ones.
I have had some in my house for a couple of years and ZERO mice. They were pretty bad before the repellers. I have them in my shop (translate to old shed with concrete floor) and can leave a pack of twinkies or such on the bench and have no critters eat on them.
I do recommend the electronic rodent repellers and wish I had discovered them sooner.
