Try a bucket/barrow with a nice little ramp going to the top edge. smear peanut butter on the ramp, just for smell. Then about 12 18" down dab more peanut butter on the inside of the barrow/bucket. When they hit the water at the bottem...well you get the point. They can't resist!

You can get an unlimited amount in a single night

Exactly what we did, except we used a #2 washtub and sprinked enough grain on top to cover the water.

The attached drawing is a bait trap I made from pvc pipe. Load it with small blocks of poison and the mice come in the bottom of the tube and nibble away at it. They go outside to die, and the bait blocks fall down to replace the one eaten. Make the top tube a few feet high and you don't have to reload it very often.
