What is the effective range for rat shot... I have a chipmonk living where he should not be living. Old .22 and a box of rat shot in the closet at standby. Just don't want to shoot holes in my garage or garage doors. Looking at a range of about 100 feet.

Mark;

Rat shot is not going to be effective at 100 feet. You might try getting closer, like 10 -20 feet or maybe you could use a pellet gun?
Good Luck

.22 Ratshot is only good out for 15-20 feet.

A high powered 1,000 fps .177 pellet rifle will blow him away @ 100 feet easily though!

I have a high powered .177 pellet rifle... might be the way to go. Dang chipmonk has been hiding the last couple days or maybe he moved?

I have .22 Benjamin pellet gun that works on mice in the house, had a mouse that thought he was smart, I set a trap with peanut butter in the bedroom at the end of the hall and watched him lick that thing clean three times and didn't trip it, the fourty time he eased up there to taste the Jiff, he got a taste of lead instead, and the wife thinks I'm nuts.:D

You can get .22 CB Short from CCI P/N 0026. 29 grain round nose at 710 fps. The CB Long is the same balistics. Very quiet and good for varmints.

Sounds like a job for Flobert's. They have no powder in them and are powered by the primer only. You can get them in BB caps or CB caps. They are imported from Germany and made by Dynamit Nobel. I have been taking out unwanted birds and chipmonks from my bathroom window for years with these. Any gun shop worth their weight should have them in stock. I pictured them with 22 short, 22 long and 22 long rifle for size comparison purposes.

Wow! Them things are little bitty:eek:

You mean to tell me that you shoot them out of a .22 rifle?

Never heard of them.... what is their range/accuracy?

Dang chipmonk was setting on top of the front truck tire this morning so I couldn't shoot.

Get a live trap and put some birdseed in it and go play on your tractor - you will have him when you get back - chances are he probably has a friend or two around as well :)
