Sounds like a job for Flobert's. ......

Just curious again, are you saying you can drill a chipmonk thru the head at 100', consistantly, with those primer-powered .22's ? I have a can of the BB's and CB's, that you mention, and have not found them to be anything close to the accuracy and killing power of the CCI CB's that shaley noted ... always interested in learning ...

Nope, the Flobert's are good only for close range. I shoot them out of a antique breech block loading Stevens Arms, Little Scout 14 1/2 with iron sight's. The whole rifle is about the length of my arm, great for use out of the bathroom window. The Flobert's make less noise than a air rifle does and therefore doesn't scare my birds away.

Chipmonks are curious little critters, at least the ones in my parts. Often they just stand there looking at you and don't run away until you are rather close to them. Just grab a bucket, take a seat and wait for the little furball to come back out as it usually doesn't take very long before they come back out and then introduce him to a lead injection.

For those wondering about the Flobert's they are 22 caliber. Don't be fooled by the German 6mm measurement.

Don't want to run this in another direction, but when I was about 15 years old, I worked for three days for an old farmer to pay for a .22 that he was willing to sell me, a Stevens Crackshot, is that anything like you're talking about?

No way! Really? I got one of those! They are a cute little youth rifle. I got it for my son 10 years ago(he was only 2 then, but I figured it would be a nice starter rifle when he got old enough). It is in decent shape, with really nice patina. The forearm has been replaced at some point though... Shoots ok. It's not a tack driver for sure, but it is a nice setup for a kid to start out on; single shot and iron sights.

AH SOMEONE else that uses the bathroom window to down the little suckers I also have been known to use the living rm window also. my favorite load is hollow points, gets the job done and noise is not a problem out here. :D

Noise isn't a problem here but when I'm shooting the little furballs from the bathroom it's because they are running off with all the bird seed where I feed the birds. When I shoot them with the Flobert's it doesn't scare the birds away.

milkman - The model 26 Crack Shot is similar to the model 14 1/2 Little Scout. The model 14 1/2's were made from 1911 to 1941, the model 26 from 1912 to 1939. Both have two piece stocks and rolling block type actions. The model 26 however could be purchased in .32 rimfire in addition to the .22 rimfire. The Crack Shot is larger overall in size and could be had with a 18 or 20 inch barrel.

I have been taking out unwanted birds and chipmonks from my bathroom window for years with these.
Yeah know, this leads to one heck of an picture...

One question though. When you take the shot, are you standing or sitting? :D

Later,
Dan

Oh, ok, guess I'm wondering why you suggested that particular round for a man that wanted 100' range ...

Jarrels

Get a rat trap, cut up an apple for bait, put down a piece around 1" by 1/2" and place it where they ( may be more than one) travel. This worked great for me, caught four last summer.
