Hehehe, Carl, you're up there in cold New York, so don't see many vipers I reckon. Them rascals are crawling all over down here. Skinned, rolled in flour, fried in good lard, mmmm mmmm! Snake and grits, man, we're talking good vittles now!

The farm cats killed rattlesnakes and drug them into the barn when I was a kid. Anyone else heard of this?

If I ever saw that thing in my yard, the only thing I would be doing is buying is a "house for sale" sign and a plane ticket. I'm a big guy, but those things scare the heck out of me. Wow I give you guys credit, I couldn't do it.

Carl you could come to Western Washington, we don't have any poisonous snakes on this side of the Cascades. Be careful coming therough Eastern Washington though they have plenty of them, big ones.

No rattlers in the northern Willamette Valley in western Oregon. We didn't have any in northwestern Montana, except for a few in Kalispell, supposedly brought in on vehicles. Don't know if they could survive there.

Re: Rattle Snakes 3 & Frindlies 3 #4 today

It's going to be a bad year for Rattlers around here. In the past have never killed over 3 in 1 season.
Was sort of dosing off, when I hear Bobby Girl, with her snake alert bark. Naturally my hoe or shovel were on the other side of the house. (Yes I do plan weapons on front & back.)

It was under the house, backed up in a corner. I got lucky, first whack got it right on the head. Got it drug out and really mashed its head. If not even after death they can & do still bite.

Will take a picture tomorrow. Laid it out by the last one killed.

Not as many rattlers here, but they are just a mile from me. I get my share of Copperheads. If I kill them and lay them out, a roadrunner usually come and gets them for her babies, and if she is slow, the turkey vultures are always ready for a quick snack. Kind of fun to watch, but one won't get pics, "after the fact".

Largest Coppehead I've killed was actually over 3 feet. I had no idea they got that large, usually closer to 2 feet, when I see them.

I'm getting the hebe gebes just reading this thread. They say you get used to anything, no way I can ever get used to that. Just shoot me now, because I would probably die of a heart attack anyway after meeting up with one of them long slithery things.

Much rather have rattlers than copper heads. Since they don't rattle. Not enough water here for them. Only ever seen 1 & it was swimming in my direction.

My road runners have completely ignored them. One just went by. Kind a cute hop skipping on the rocks.
The "Mexican Air Force - IE. turkey buzzards have also been absent. There were 3 or 4 hunting low over the yard & close by.

Quail, doves & even the cotton tails get close & check them out.

If I was into skinning them this would be a nice hide, just no head.

Up Date: #3 & #4 are gone. Mexican Air Force (Turkey Buzzards) must have found them. They were there around 9 AM, Went out a little after 10 #4 was gone. #3 Was real dried out, must have eaten it there, some ribs & back bone, + a grease spot.

Copperheads shake their tails, they just have no rattles on it. They are also "less venomous", supposedly. The other thing they always say about Copperheads, is "when upset, they smell like urine", (and they do). Some snake phobic folks usually reply, "I thought it was me!"

I'm not snake phobic, and leave the non-venomous varieties to do their job, but Rattlers and Copperheads, I do eliminate. Water moccasins are the ones that worry me the most. No real warning, if you aren't looking at their mouth and comprehending, before they decide to strike.

Stepson bitten by copperhead. His leg swelled up so bad the DR thought the muscle sac might break. 10 course of anti-venom. Bill for snake bite $50K.
Ran over a rattlesnake while bicycling in Kansas earlier this year. Don't know that I killed him, but he was coiled prior to the impact, and later accounts had him straight.
