Mike,
I was just going by what is on paper about my warranties. It is nice if you get a good dealer that will work with you, but not all will. A dealer told me that the oil tests mean nothing for warranties, because the engine could have been abused and then oil changed afterwards. Oil change records must be kept if they are picky about it. Considering what a new engine costs, I will change my oil regularly with a premium cheaper oil and still cost less than the very expensive stuff. by the way I usually put around 200K or more miles on my vehicles. My 1968 IH tractor is origional inside the block and uses less than 1/8 qt oil in 100 hours.
I will just stick with the cheaper premium oil. Delo 400 in my tractor. And Castroil in my Trucks/auto.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but go back to that dealer and state you want the info he stated in writing. All dealers talk a good game but never put it in writing. I bet 100 to 1 he will not do it. A dealer can NOT void a warranty about oil etc. Lexus said the same thing and I said I wanted that I must follow the 7,500 mile oil changes in writing. He, the manager of Lexus service said, ”we can only tell our customer what Lexus recommends to us.” Also Lexus do not require any receipts etc for warranty. The receipt thing is a money-maker to get YOU in the door and maybe save $500 on your next car. To bad you will still be in the negative zone after all the service receipts you paid for.

Again I asked Ford about the extended drains with my Ford diesel and they stated the only time it might be an issue is if something went wrong, ie. Blown cam, valves etc. He also stated they do not go bye receipts etc because they does not really tell you IF or when the oil etc where changed and people have lied. The only way they, Ford, can tell what is up is by oil testing.

I think your dealer is doing what 90% of them do; they scare you into thinking they, the dealer, will void this and that when they can’t because they need to contact corporate on the issue. No dealer can do it without being told too. You dealer is full of it.

When I decided to change my Wife’s Mercedes Ml-420 over the dealer recommends only using synthetics in their engine! Figure that out! Also they did not even blink an eye on the extended drains since they are common where they make the ML.

My old Powerstroke used about 1 quart every 12,000 or 1 oil change. My BX uses little to zero oil so far in the 45 hours on the oil.

My final beat on the poor dead horse.

I do not have the dealers change my oil. I do however keep a maintenance log on all machines. This is good enough by law for any warranty.

12,000 on one quart of oil !!! Keep that engine, I have never seen one go that far on one quart of oil before.

It's your final beat on the dead Amsoil horse, but it wont be the last. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Seems that every new tractor owner asks about it.

I should have made this more clear. My old Poerstroke diesel only used "aka" lost" (1) qt of oil during it's 12,000 mile oil change.
