I have a newbie question about possibly removing the front wheel of a Kubota L5030. I was pushing some downed trees around today and when I stopped the tractor I noticed a hissing noise. I must have whacked the valve stem and now it's leaking. I parked the tractor and supported the front axle with some lumber since I had to get home (tractor is at my property 25 miles away). I'm assuming I'll need to replace the valve stem and will need to remove the wheel to get it fixed. I can't remember what the wheel assembly looks like. Is it the same type of lug nuts used with a car's wheel assembly? Any special tools?

take a socket set with an extension bar and a big handle, the nuts "should" be fairly tight. cant remember exact size, think its about 13/16 or something around there. take up to 1" and you will be fine. if you jack machine up to the correct hight you should not even have to lift the wheel. just lean it back slightly and roll it away

You use jacks on the front of tractors? WE have always lifted it off the ground with the loader and then put blocks under it it...much less work... I broke a front spindle off a Case 2290 one December morning while feeding hay to cattle. It was only 3 degrees F that morning.... not fun....

the jack is a stack easier to control and a lot safer. like i said you can position it so acurately that you dont have to lift the wheel, either getting it of or putting it back on. just turn the hub to line up the studs and lean it in, push the top studs through the holes and put a nut or 2 on, then jack the axle up some more and the bottom will swing in, put the nuts on, let down and your done. no heavy lifting. works great on the heavy rears. i can do a big one full of fluid by myself without busting myself. have used the loader method and dont like it much. if its good 4 you then who am i 2 argue :D

If memory serves, the lug nuts on my L4200 are 22mm. Actually all of the bug nuts on the front end (tie rods, etc.) are the same size.

Re: Front wheel removal

Get a new valve stem, pull the old one out, shove the new one in and use a 12 V air pump to pressure up the tire. :D
