Because you have put the salesman in an akward position...LOL
John Deere is such a symbol of American Heritage in the heart land. Its like having an American flag made in China ,which by the way most American flags are made in China. Wait till Suzuki starts making Harley Davidson...or they start shipping the Harley Parts in a crate from Japan or where ever and assembling them here in the USA ( not that I really excpect that to happen).
One JD dealer I know of has a Stihl Franchise...I asked them why they did not sell John Deere chainsaws...he did not want to say Stihl is a better chainsaw than the Green John Deere chainsaw.

I really hate to tell you this but that beloved Harley already has Japanese parts on it. Look at the carb on the newer ones. I bet they are either Mikuni or Keihin. Even less obvious things like the internals of the front forks and the electrical systems. I'm not a big harley fan, But to each his own.

I bought an official National League baseball last year to get autographed by Ernie Harwell. Made in China. It is getting hard to find Made in America. I still like my JD 790. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
