Reading TBN can be expensive

For the trade-in price of you Farmtrac(I'm guessing around $3K) and if you have a "farm", I'd keep it. I'd love to have a second smaller tractor for tilling, raking and tedding hay, etc. That's cheap back-up if you need it.............[/QUOTE]

Back-up??????????? And you own a Kioti?????? What are you saying??????

I'm saying, buy the Kioti and keep the Farmtrac...don't trade it.

Well, I may just be following your advice guys... sadly. Your almost on the $$$ on the trade-in, $3.5K. The DK40se dealer phoned with that offer, but his price to add the remote and for his grapple is WAY higher than the DK45se dealer. Almost double - and without the turf tires. He said, (and dealer #2 who used to handle FarmTracs stated the same) that the company is no more. With the additional costs for the 3rd valve, Grapple, without even taking the tires into account is more than the total for the DK45se.

So, if dealer #2 offers me the same or will fix the stall problem it's having ( both dealers are aware of that) for a reasonable amount, I'm heading East on Monday to give them greenbacks. I really don't want to have two tractors, but it won't kill me to keep it if I have to.

If you don't want to keep the farmtrac.. remember it is spring, and people are looking at tractors, and might sell it yourself and do better.

I got the offer and final figures from dealer #2, and I am going to take the offer. Final deal is DK45se HST, QA FEL, 48" Grapple hooked up and ready to go, Turf Tires (my choice), and sunshade delivered for $23.8. I don't think I can beat that deal. I am going to trade-in the FarmTrac and they matched the other dealer at $3,500, so it keeps me under 20K for everything. I appreciate the suggestions some of you gave me about keeping it, but then thought about having to maintain another machine. I would rather spend the time using the new one.

I am gonna go give them a deposit on Wednesday, but don't want it delivered until the last week of April/first week of May. I should have my new Barn finished by then and have the electric and water in place. In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to get my "run a machine" urges in check with my Lawn equipment :)

Sounds like a great deal. Congratulations.

I understand the turfs may be better for mowing but make sure you are not intending to be working in the woods or near anything that can puncture them. R4s are much tougher which is why most of us choose them despite/because of the compromise between turf and Ag.

How many rear remotes? I'd pay extra for at least one extra set beyond what the factory provides. Usually not too expensive <$500 and it opens up a whole world of possibilities. On the same point, you can add it yourself but after having one, a hydraulic topping lift cylinder is something I would never want to live without.

...

Impressions I don't like the rocker HST- I'm sure I could get comfortable with it, but why not just get two pedals.

...

I kinda thought that too after testing a JD 4005 HST with separate pedals, & then testing an L3940 HST. I bought the L3940 anyway, & it turns out the Kubota rocker pedal works great/ just fine/ no problems; never even think about it, which I think is what you want in a foot pedal! :)

Edit: Oops, I'm late to the discussion; I see you're all set

Thanks IT, I'm going to ask about the remotes when I go over Wednesday. I just need to figure out if I want to go with a TnT. If so, I'll get in contact with the fellow TBN member that is in California(?).

The dealer says he'll put whatever tire I want on, so I'll see about that, but the tires I have on my Farmtrac (AG), really leaves ruts wherever I drive.

Bebbington - Yup, I'm sure the rocker would have been fine, but I figure why fight it as I did like the way the Kioti drove.

If your Farmtrac had Ags then it is easy to understand you are worried about your lawn. R4 tires are far kinder to lawns so long as you stay off when it is wet. I don't doubt turfs are even more gentle but they have generally the worst traction which means you will spin them and do damage that way instead. Unloaded R4 tires with appropriate ballast for the task mounted on the 3PT is about as good a compromise as any. If you don't notice problems then you can add tire ballast later if desired.

I have to agree. On my 1710 I have turf on the rear and R4 on the front (that is the way it was when I bought it) and I have almost no traction on the rear. Without ballast and with the FEL there is no weight in the back and and while I can drive around I need to have something hanging on the rear to do anything. I would certainly prefer having R4 on the back. This would be especially true since you will have twice as much HP as I have. I have had trenchers and other pieces of equipment on my grass (with R4s and heavy) and no issues.

Ag are totally different and there is no way I would want them on a lawn - period. Not even when it is dry with my lightweight tractor. great for mud and pulling and heavy work but not for lawns!
