I just bought 2.3 acreas of pasture with half having a side slope of 15 - 19.25 degrees. I have a 1000 feet of gravel driveway and have just started a new house on the site. I plan to purchase a JD790 with a FEL, Box Blade, & 60" RFM. Will the non syncro gearbox be to much of a problem with the FEL or will being in hi-range and shifting between 1st & reverse work fine on level ground. I have also considered the MF1528 & the Kubota L3400. Due to right leg trouble, I want to avoid HST's. Is the 790 the right machine?

I once had 2 ac of flat land and JD650 with a RFM and I loved it!

You will be fine. Just make sure to mow up and down the slope. My setup is similar to yours except I have the rotary mower instead. Doing FEL work you will be constantly shifting between reverse and 1st gear. This shift is a straight line back and forth in the pattern.

If your drive has an incline you will want 4X4 for sure. My 2WD 790 was useless trying to pull a boxblade up a slight slope, even with the differential locked. My 790 if about perfect for finish mowing to me.
