Ready to buy: L4330 vs L4630 sans backhoe

It occurred to me that since I won't be able to use the backhoe till July when the ground dries out, and since my friend down the road has offered to let me use his Kubota mini-excavator a couple times each year, that I ought to hold on the BH90 for now. So instead, I've locked in the price with the dealer thru next summer.

So it looks like my L3010HST with loader, backhoe, and 72" rear blade plus $9,900 for the used (216 hours) L4630HST with LA853 loader, HD bucket w/ hooks and Skidsteer style quick attach, loaded aggies with tubes in front, Norse ice chains on the rear, one set of factory rear remotes, a rear utility light mounted to the fender, block heater, and a Woods heavy duty 84" rear blade.

Or the same configuration in a brand new L4330HST for $1300 more. But I'm leaning toward used since both the 50 and 300 hour service will have been performed, so that's another $1000 plus pickup and delivery in savings.

Not sure if my Farmi 351P logging winch is big enough for the larger tractor. The dealer says yes, and recommends against trading up to the 501 winch. But since he'll lock in that price as well, guess I'll try the 351P and if it feels like I need the extra capacity I can always trade up in a couple of months. I'm just worried that the smaller wince won't have enough pull to get me out of mud if I get stuck in the woods.

For all you other Grande L series owners, is there anything in the way of options you regret not getting when you brought your tractor home?

I wish I had got the LA723 Loader instead of the LA513. No real reason except everyone likes it on TBN. Also should have got the four way loader valve just to have in case I need it.

I agree with rk246, as with my tractor the front cab lights get the use. The ones on the tractor are blocked by the bucket or whatever is on the pallet forks.

As far as the options that I miss, there are none as mine was ordered pretty much loaded expect for the center pto and the vents for the side windows in the cab.

I saw the 3 way and 4 way loader valves in the catalog but don't understand the difference..?

Here you go. If you ever want that front plow or grapple get the 4-way (sometimes called 4-position).

I have read that link before but I really appreciate your posting it again. I have a question. I says the 3 position valve won't work on a blade because it uses single acting hydraulic cylinders. Couldn't you just install double acting cyclinders and then it would work?

I just bought a used snowblower with a hydraulic motor for the chute rotation. Will the 3 position valve work with that?

Please help me understand.

No denying it Pete, you’ve got the “WANT A NEW TRACTOR” bug. It got me this last year also.

Not exactly an option for the tractor but with you working a deal I would go ahead and buy a set of forks for the skid steer type loader hook up. Mine are Bobcat brand and were about $800. I had no idea how handy they would be and now find them on the tractor as much as the bucket.

Thanks, Mark. Great suggestion and one of the reasons I went with the quick attach bucket. You're right; as long as I'm getting the tractor now is the time for a package deal. Right now, when harvesting firewood, I use chains on the FEL to pick the logs up and stack them...but forks would be a lot faster and easier. Thanks again, and Merry Christmas!
