I would at least look where the fluid is coming from, fitting may just need tightened, not going to void warranty for tighening fitting. I had simular experiance when cylinder replaced, gone two weeks, then got back and puddle hydulic fliud under it. Took 10 minutes to see where it was coming from. Tighten and fine since then. So my blood pressure was only up for 15minites rather than days going back to dealer.
Of course if it looks like more than tighten something guess you are stuck with dealer and i'd give him one more shot then call kubota and tell them you want another dealer to come out and fix.
Taxes sounds fishy, personnally i'd look for my receipt quote to see if taxes on it, at deal is a deal though, if they quoted and you signed for the lower price I'd think it was dealers problem.

hi pjw

i think we have all felt your pain 1 time or another. i would agree u need to collect your self and stand your ground maybe it is something simple. Remember u get more flies with honey than vinegar. I have looked at buying a bota for my rental fleet and i am not a bota fan, but u need to give them (dealer) a chance. Talk 2 the mgr or the owner. The tax thing after u research it it maybe a morel issue.

short story i made a mistake selling something brand new for 1/2 the cost. when i realized it weeks later i called the customer and explained what happened (a typing error $4000.00) he basicly told me my lost, he is right.
He was given the full price, but when the paper work was done the price was taken from a previse purchase. when he paid for it he said nothing. i could not do that an live with my self. if it was a tax mistake i hope u would pay it. be claim and stand your ground.

good luck!

One thing I have learned for myself, particularly between Thanksgiving Day and New Year's Day (LONG story for another time), is the importance of forgiveness, understanding, non-judgment, non-attacking communication, and win-win negotiating. (I heartily recommend studying and putting into practice Mahatma Gandhi's 10 rules for conflict resolution).

Your goals and the dealer's goals are the same - a satisfied customer. I believe that a non-confrontational, forgiving, calm, compassionate, "win-win" approach will reach that goal.

It is astonishing to me how dramatically a person's willingness/desire to help plummets when he is being attacked. If they are free to empathize with you (by not being attacked) they will usually bend over backwards to help, as their natural desire to do good things will come to the surface.

The more understanding you are, and the more forgiveness you can show for their rather obvious mistake, the more they will jump at the chance to make things right. It got the British out of India, and it will get you tractor fixed, I am almost sure of it.

As part of the "win-win", I would encourage you to pay the sales tax. The is a lot to be said for the saying, "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's". (Has anyone seen "Sgt. York", with Gary Cooper? GREAT movie). Plus, it just seems like the right thing to do, and will boost your dealer's cooperation level considerably.

Lastly - "all this over a silver dollar-sized puddle of hydraulic oil" struck me as a little bit judgmental, as if you shouldn't be feeling what you are feeling, or saying what you are saying. I disagree. These are your feelings, and as such, you are entitled to them. I would be feeling very much the same way. No one I know likes frustration, and I know that you want very much to be enjoying your tractor, not battling a hydraulic leak.

But this is a problem with an easy enough solution. Work hand in hand with your dealer to find that solution. Regard him as an ally, potential friend, and fellow human being, not as an adversary, and you will both win.

Good luck, and I hope you will soon be enjoying the reliability and utility of your machine - in short, all the reasons you bought a Kubota in the first place. One hydraulic leak does not a lemon make, so I hope you don't feel that you got one. Things are what they are, and what I think you have on your hands is a beautiful machine with a leak.

Take care, John D.

Man, everythings in your corner. You owe him taxes(maybe) and you need the leak repaired. I bet he bends over the barrel to make you happy. You happy pay taxes, you unhappy taxes get paid when ---freezes over. I would not mention the taxes until necessary tho. Do what most say ...Be nice till ya have to get rotten...My 2 cents.

Dealer picked up tractor today. Spoke with guy in charge of service. He seemed mildly put out talking to me, but it was a pleasant enough exchange. Told me that I have to expect hydraulic leaks at some point. I told him that I understood that, but not at 20 hours and not when the tractor had just been brought back from being serviced. Hwe agreed that there was no excuse for it and indicated that the tractor was in the shop and the problem diagnosed- this time an FEL line. Guy indicated again that these things will happen with fittings and flared tubing etc. I once again indicated that I just want my tractor to work properly and, as we are having a mild winter, suggested he keep the tractor as long as he needed to "get it right". Indicated to him that I am sure he is sick of getting calls from me and I am tired of having to call. Told him to do what needs to be done, take his time, and that, the next time I call, I hope it is merely to arrange to purchase more accessories/ implements. Overall, a decent conversation- was a little cheesed with the "you gotta expect these things" comments, but, overall, it was okay. Fingers crossed, they do it right this time.

Sounds like you handled it well, from my perspective. Basically you told them you are going to be reasonable, and that you look forward to doing more business with them.. but only if they don't screw you around and if they don't assume you're an idiot. Telling them to take their time was a good move.. a tactful was of saying just do the job right.. I won't whine if it takes you a while to figure it out.. just figure it out. And get it right.. that's your job.

Good going....

I eargerly await further updates!

Hats off to you, it sounds as if Mahatma Gandhi would have been very proud of you. And I think even he would have bristled a bit, though perhaps not noticeably, at the suggestion that "you have to expect these things", after they had given the matter their full attention and "best" efforts once before. Ditto the service guy's apparent attitude that he is just barely willing to put up with your pesky request that you be given back a fully functional tractor, at their convenience.

Aaah, but this is where forgiveness, sweet forgiveness kicks in. Total forgiveness is the key to happiness IMHO. Start with yourself, then give it away to others. Makes a great gift. Doesn't cost a cent, one size fits all, no receipts to hang on to, everybody loves it, and if it gets returned, so much the better!

Some people say there's no hope for this planet, but I say there is. One person at a time. Choose love - what do you have to lose but anger, bitterness, fear and resentment? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

CT,
Am a lawyer by trade. Fairly aggressive by nature (type A personality). At times, i even hate myself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I am able to set aside my profession and "keep oit in the courtroom" for the most part. However, there are days I need calming advice. On those dys, can I come to you? Sort of an on-line transcendental meditating, non-violent, civilly disobedient, Gandhi, MLK Zen master?

Absolutely, positively, any time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That reminds me of a Seinfled episode, where Jerry has found "the girl of his dreams". "She's great, she's JUST LIKE ME!", he tells all his friends. At the end of the episode, he comes to the realization: "Wait a minute. This isn't going to work!? She IS just like me - and I HATE myself!!" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Great stuff, he earned his half-billion dollars. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyway, I think the "truth" is, that while we can only hope to change others (though it can be done - witness Rosa Parks, Mahatma Gandhi, Buddha and Richard Simmons) - we can change ourselves at will. Make that change, and you will change others, and get a WHOLE lot back, as a nice fringe benefit.

And oh yeah, I almost forgot - you'll save the world, too. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Non-attacking, non-judgmental, TOTALLY forgiving, compassionate, and understanding ... it's as easy as pie, and just as sweet.

That's the path to peace on earth. Sounds too simple to be true, but true it is, in my humble ... (and if I am not humble, I am false) ... opinion.

Hmm, notice we can't talk about religion in here, but I can talk about love, compassion, and forgiveness all day long .... interesting .....
