International 1066 with Year Round Cab, Kioti DK 45S with Cab, 451 Loader
Had the equipment ready, the old 1066 was running smooth and the disc had been greased, I thought it was time to do some field work. I had worked about 20 min and looked back and saw one gang wasn't turning, 2 rocks were stuck between the discs. Drove back to the shed and spent the next 20 minutes trying to drive the rocks out, finally they let loose. Back to the field, worked about a half hour this time, was in a section of field that hadn't been plowed for 20 plus years. It looked dry on the surface, the ground was clay. I noticed the tires started slipping and before I knew it I was stuck. All four tires were spinning, couldn't go forward or back because the disc tires wanted to dig in. I had to unhook the disc, back to the shed again for a chain, pulled the disc out, and it's now sitting out in the field. All in all a fun afternoon.

As clean as everything looks in that first picture, it must have been made before playing in the mud.

The pic of tractor was taken just as I was ready to start out. No mud pics, left the camera back at the shed after taking the rock pictures. I have wet spots all over this farm and makes early spring work a mess.

Wait till you get a rock stuck between those duals. It happened to me on a 1466 many years ago. I strategically placed one of those long railroad pry bar/jack handles between the rock and the axle and slowly pulled forward. Turned that bar into a horse shoe.

Now more work filling in ruts and breaking up the compaction. How about sending some excess moisture down to central fl. What will be planted in that field?

The field had grown up in cedar trees and multiflura rose, I was trying to get it looking decent again and comfortable to walk over. I will probably seed it with timothy after I get the ruts out and the ground worked up good. I was stuck last fall in the same general area, same tractor and disc but without the duals.

Oliver---Never thought about getting a rock stuck between the duals. definitely doesn't sound like fun.

I never used a tractor with duals, but I did pull our 32' fifth-wheel with a one ton dually Chevy, and on 2/23/90, we spent the night in a rocky National Park Service campground on Lake Amistad on the Texas/Mexico border and the next morning when we pulled out, as soon as I hit the pavement, I heard that thump, thump, thump and couldn't figure what in the world that was; I'd never thought about getting a rock caught in the duals. The rock in my left duals wasn't much bigger than my fist, but I had quite of job getting it out of there; just kept hammering on it with a claw hammer until it broke up and came out.

How long will it take the field to dry out enough to work and plant ? I dont think your good farmland is like our sand. Shure wish timothy would grow here ,we have a big market for timothy horse hay. Are you going to bale small squares (horse ?) or round (cattle) hay? Just wondering and trying to learn something that may help us here.

If we had at least three weeks without rain I should be able to get back in and work it up. Part of the field was near perfect but these wet spots, or seeps, are killing me. I badly need tile in many locations but that is costly and will have to be done over time.
Most likely what I plant in timothy will never be bailed. I use a large part of the farm for dog training so the marginal farm land areas will be put in a cover that is easy to maintain and work a dog in.
Sorry I haven't been much help, my main crops are sweet corn and soybeans and hopefully this year some wheat.

Finally got the disc out of the field and back to the shed. Took the Kioti out with the forks and lifted the disc tongue out of the mud and spun the disc around. I then went back and got the IH and got it hooked up to the disc, had several scary moments when I thought I was going to get stuck again.
