Real Estate sign posted on our land??? (bogus)

I don't see a big conspiracy at work here, I am of the 'sign got stuck in the wrong place, on wrong road, etc' group.

But let us know how it turns out if you would please.

I would be only to happy to be in your FIL's shoes with that property, nothing like having folks beating down your door to buy your property. He should just stick a for sale sign out there and entertain offers until they get high enough to satisfy him. I don't get to attached to any one place or another, if someone came along with a big enough check they could buy our place today, haha.

( It's probably against the rules here, but if all of us had the info on the sign--and we all emailed/called the realtor telling them we saw this sign and were VERY INTERESTED in considering this property and could they please provide us the details......................)

Yeah Ron, you're right. As appealing as this "option" may appear at times, we can't condon nor allow it to unfiold here on TBN. It sounds to me like the land owner is proceeding to get to the bottom of the story.

Just spoke with the office manager (not the name of guy on sign).

Before I told him what was up, I asked if they had any listings on my road (no). How about in the general area? (no).

Long story short, I then laughingly told him what the deal was and how I thought someone was having fun at their expense...

He laughed and agreed that as best he knows, his sign does NOT belong there and he was appreciative of my offer to take it down. He said he personally, would stop by my house later tonight and pick it up.

He of course, then said... "However, we WOULD be happy to list your property for you..."

I smiled and said "If you & I can wait another 5 years, we'll BOTH make a heck of a lot more!"

He laughed/smiled and said "hope to hear from ya"

That seems to be the end of the story. I'll post a pic when I get home tonight anyways, so you might get a flavor of how out of place this is.

By the way, on the pictures with the drawn lines, the road into the land is the same road that marks the left side of the outline and that road ends at the point marked.

There is absolutly NO way this can be for anything legit.

Not a soul lives on the opposite side of the road, nearest neighbor is a ways down the road (if you look at map, it's where the large cove is). All down this road, the only houses are on the right side (as viewing picture). There are no public access points other than for a hiking trail, but that's on TVA land.

Although my guard isn't down 100%, I'm willing to chalk this up to basic idiocy.

The idea of vandals brings up a high school memory of mine (not a good one).

Was hanging out with a neighborhood friend (troublemaker). We were walking home after a football game or something. He said "watch this"...as he walked over to a for sale sign in someones yard...

I stood there & watched as he walked up to it and wiggled it out of the ground.

Although I did not seem to understand the humor in that, my mind was thinking forward and presumed he'd plant said sign in the neighbors yard.

Then, suddenly to my horror, he sort of did a 360 degree turn with his body and HEAVED that sign onto their front porch screen/glass door and it made a HECK of a racket and of course, broke the glass yada yada yada...

Mortified, I just rannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

As an aside, this is the same guy who was trying to , well, not trying, I witnessed him, putting lit cigars down the gas tank of a vehicle... good thing it was a diesel.

This guy was a real ner-do-well as we were growing up... and today he is an attorney. I've always meant to find him and ask if he was a prosecutor or defense attorney... I figure for all the crap he did as a kid, there is NO one who would be able to pull the wool over his eyes!

Just a little something to think about here. I know of a few instances where kids have taken down signs off of realty for sale and moved it just for the fun of it. This may be what has happened to you.

If I were you, I would do somthing stupid like shred the sign and dump the shreddings on the realitors door step. No, I am sorry, Dont do that. Just speaking my mind. Sorry. Call and complain. Thats good enough, Hopefully

Richard.....
I'm a Realtor here in NS, Canada & thought I'd add my 2 cents. Our rules & regulations here are specific that a sign cannot go up until the paperwork is signed to list the property & the sign must come down & be removed within 24hrs of closing. I personally can say that I have lost numerous signs to which I have not seen them again (maybe it's on your land /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) and it seems like teenagers are quite often behind much of my vandalism (ripped out & thrown in ditch) but when I read your post my first thoughts were that there was a liitle partying going on & kids decided to have some fun. On the other side, I've been contacted by people inquiring about a property with a sign on it that was not for sale, once again some kids having their fun. As I read further I noticed that it was an innocent error, I just thought I'd share my personal experience. Eric

Well.. Neither! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I live on Tellico Lake directly across from Tellico Village. If you look at the pic I posted the areas on the opposite side of the lake are parts of Tellico Village that are on the dam end of the lake (as in Ft. Loudon dam) hmmm...censored? lol

Anyways, just to give a bit of perspective if you're familiar with it, if you jump in a boat at Tellico Village Marina & get on the lake heading TOWARDS the dam, I'm several coves up to the right and then the dam itself is perhaps 2 miles?? (blatent guess)

Some people call one of the coves "power line cove" as there are some high power lines that cross this cove. Power line cove is the top cove bordering us. If you drive down that cove and look to the right, other than the land TVA owns, you're looking at where we are.

Furthermore, my father in law use to own the land UNDER powerline cove and beyond (he had 1,200 acres) until TVA...uh... "bought" it... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

So, now that we all know how to get to me by boat, there will be a big cookout tonight for all comers! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I forgot to add... when I got home last night the sign was gone. I concluded perhaps an agent realized they put it up in a wrong area and grabbed it.

Well, that was not the case, my wifes uncle came home & saw it. He's not quite as "do my research, THEN react" as I might be.

He simply ripped it out and had it up by his garage.
