Jerry and Bird, a 500 sq. ft. cabin is a tad cramped to live in and we will be moving down the road (La Grange) soon or across the pasture (new construction) in a couple years, or both over a longer span of time. Cutting the ties with Houston was the big life change for us. When we had the very inexpensive cabin built 8 years ago it was just to get us out of the tent on weekends and to give us a taste of country life. It has fulfilled it's purpose.
Retirement is fun! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Gary, the internet at the cabin has made remote country life more enjoyable. I feel connected and not isolated. I know If I need any advise, help is only a few keystrokes away. Thanks TBN for making the transition easy. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Enjoy it. Been seven years for me. Of course, I got bored and had to get into something else again. But if you stay busy, it will not be a problem.

The wife and I bought about 90 acres 20 years ago and planned to move there when I retired. It's about 70 miles from home. Now she can't think of moving away from the grandchildren. So I live in town in the winter and move to the farm from April 1st to the end of deer season. She drives down for Friday to Sunday. It move wasn't worth arguing over. as my dad used to say " Some arguments even when you win, you loose."

Yep, Paul, I've known lots of folks who moved out in the country when they retired and loved it the rest of their lives, but I probably know just as many who moved back to the city after a little while; some for family reasons, some who just found they didn't like the country life, long drives to recreational and shopping facilities, etc.

And of course, I'm among those who did the full time RV lifestyle for 6 years, then a home in the country for 8 years, and now back in a home in the city. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I'd prefer being out in the country, but there are family reasons for us being where we are and I'm adaptable. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
