Charlie,I purchased a 2015 Silverado 2500 HD Double Cab 4x4 6.0 gasser just over a year ago. The best I've seen is about 15mpg. The average is about 11 mpg. If you're pulling a load, it goes down from there.I made a 1300 mile round-trip last month, pulling a 12x16 Uhaul covered trailer full of furniture. My average was 10.8 mpg, which is better than I had expected.
Thank's to all of you who responded with gas mileage figures, I appreciate it. I thought I would give you an update on my mileage check for the week, all driving back and forth to work, so mostly stop and go, I checked it this afternoon and averaged 13.7 mpg. Charlie.
Was thinking it would be nice to get a newer pickup, but my 2005 2500HD extended cab 4x4 6.0L gas gets 14-15 mpg on the highway. 10+ mpg average local driving and 7 mpg pulling 10,000 lbs gooseneck & skid steer. It has128,000 miles, uses no oil, and the transmission is strong. The truck is paid for so I think I'll just keep driving it.

No need to change. It can only get worse from there. Specially in the "is paid for" dept.

With a little more effort to save fuel I got my 2015 3500HD 6.0 up to 14.3 mpg. There is a lot of mountain roads where I drive.

One quick thought on the "1" position: Could be for rapid forward / reverse movement like rocking the truck out of a ditch or snow plowing. As a former plow guy, I remember many nights just pulling the stick down till it stopped to go forward. Unless in low - range, I rarely plowed in any other gear. M1 could do that, but for repetitive motion, the "1" is an easier way to explain it.

And the manual mode, according to the owners manual will eventually allow upshift and downshift, to avoid engine damage. 1 will not allow any gear change AFAIK.

Wait till you have to replace the flex-fuel sensor.... ouch!

That very well could be an ouch. But a lot of things on the pickup to replace are an ouch. I get a lot of ouches in life anymore. Just replaced the tires on my commercial truck tractor. That was about $6000.

Everything in life has it's little quirks. At least I can fuel with anything at the pump but diesel. I can select, based on current pricing and the mpg I get from each fuel, the one that offers the lowest cost per mile. I ran everything from E0 to E85 in my 2013 1500 5.3L and never have any sensor issues. We'll see how this one does.

Just took my 08 4X4 2500HD to Whistler B.C. from Chehalis, WA (325 miles). Got 16.8 mpg first leg, dropping to 14.5 final leg. BTW, truck was fully loaded with carpentry tools. Around home I get 11 to 12 mpg.

Our 2013's sensor went out at under 35,000 miles. The part alone was $600, plus labor. It was covered by warranty. That e85 sensor is a complicated unit. The sensor has to determine the amount of ethanol and gas and send signal to computer. Problem is, 10 gallons of gas + 5 gallons of e85 + 2 gallons of E10, plus straight gas over time there's no telling what the ratio is, so the sensor has to figure it out. Our's started telling us there was water in the fuel. There was no water. Dealer changed it out under warranty. I've read several mechanics' forums where they said this sensor will be a boon to their business as soon as the warranty goes out. Time will tell, I guess.

Just bought gas today. $1.92 for 87, $1.89 for E85, and $2.49 for diesel.

E85 has not made since here since 2007, the last time I bought a drop of the stuff.
