Hey Folks,
Looking to add a 14,000lb 4 post lift to my shop. I have a mini ex that weighs about 8500lbs, and a Kubota M5040, with loader, and filled tires, that probably weighs about the same. Both have very short wheelbases (81" for the kubota, and the tracks are 85" long on the mini ex). Bendpak lists a reduced capacity for all of their lifts if you are lifting a short wheelbase vehicle
140"+ wheelbase - 100% capacity - 14,000 lbs
120" wheelbase - 75% capacity - 10,500 lbs
100" wheelbase - 50% capacity - 7000 lbs
80" wheelbase - 25% capacity - 3,500 lbs
Obviously the tractor and mini ex would fall somewhere near the 3,500lb limit on that chart. I even called bendpak, and spoke to a salesman who worryingly told me not to be concerned with it, and of course happily sent me a quote. I wrote him back and asked him to put that in writing.. no response yet.
NO OTHER LIFT MANUFACTURERS list a similar restriction. So I'm now looking at a Rotary 14,000lb lift. I also spoke with a challenge rep, who over the phone said my equipment was no problem. But I'm looking for real world feedback anyone has doing something similar. while searching through the forums I found one other member who sounds like he had a similar setup to me, and PM'd him. He essentially said he lifts all kinds of similar pieces of equipment heavier than what I'm talking about with no problem. Any other feedback? If you do lift heavy short wheelbase equipment, do you get deflection in your posts or runways that you don't get with long wheelbase vehicles? Thanks!
P.S. I also have a pile of other vehicles I'd use this for - golf carts, side by sides, jeeps, sedans, suvs, srw truck, drw truck, etc. - I am convinced I will be well served by a 4 post lift, and don't need to be talked into a 2 post. I have room in my building, and my budget to install one of those also if I want to after I've had the 4 poster for a while
