With few exceptions, you pretty much have to push backwards with a rear blade. Otherwise the snow builds up very quickly between the blade and your rear tires and then what are you going to do with it?

How about an alternative suggestion ? Save your money for a couple of years and then get a three point snow blower. That is what I did and I am very happy now. I can move the piles back and I don't end up with no where to put the snow towards the end of the year.

I use the blade in reverse and it does a good job behind the x749. Last year I was able to clear about 18" in one event quickly, about 45 minutes and this would have taken several hours to do by hand. Like I said beats a shovel.
I like to run the blade backwards of what you normally would for a small amount of snow, If you are going forward have the cutting edge facing backwards and do the opposite for going in reverse. The cutting edge will not dig up gravel that bad when you run it backwards.
