Rear Blade Rear Blade Advice

Hello one and all

I have been quoted $600 for a Farm King rear blade. It weighs around 273 pounds. I want to do some landscaping including on some sod (tearing it up and the like) Is this enough of a blade for my 3010? Should I bother getting a better one?

Ooops an important detail: 6 foot (72 inches) I figure I want it a bit wider than the tractor.

I got a similar bid on a similar blade, then I ordered a blade from Corriher Equipment for $285 + $45 to ship it. I got the 60" blade. I believe their 72" blade is about $315 or $325.

The blade is very heavy, very heavy duty. It not only swivels but it also tilts and it has offsets so you can set it over to one side of the tractor or the other. All the adjustments require simple, but very heavy duty, locking pins so adjustments can be made in the field without any tools. In fact I made several adjustments while the tractor was parked in a ditch that I was trenching.

The blade compares very well to the heavy duty Landpride blades. I believe they are made for Corriher by Midwest. I wanted the best blade I could find and I think I bought it. I've used it extensively and it was the best money I spent for any implement. Very well designed, very heavy duty and an incredible value.

I think you'll find that a rear blade won't tear up sod worth a snot, however a box blade will and they also move dirt and gravel better

With your tractor I would be considering a 7' blade. Keep in mind that when using a rear blade you often have it set at an angle to windrow material and the 6 footer is not going to cover your tracks when angled. I have never seen a Farm King implement but the price seems high to me. Do look for one that will swivel, tilt and offset with as much weight as you can afford. And as Trailertrash said, I think you will be disappointed with a rear blade's ability to tear up sod.

I've got a box blade, and although it tears up the sod it seems to sort sort of float on top of it, rather than digging it up. Maybe I should add some weight or something.

The 7' blade idea makes sense, but maybe I have to work on my box blade technique.

Yep.

Adjust the angle of attack, also. Tighten the top link to make the front do the work (digging). Lengthen the top link to make the back do the work (spreading).
