This thread got me thinking...http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-owning-operating/173601-make-shift-box-blade.html
Thanks grnspot110!!!!!
I have been needing/wanting a box blade for some time now, and thanks to my dad, (jmarotz) for the use of his 4' KK bb, but with a 5' wide tractor, well... you know.;) It works kinda.
Well I have a 6' heavy duty RB that I don't use much. So, got to thinkin about a combo unit. here's some pics of a mock-up I did tonite with cardboard. The extra width will be GREAT when cleaning my horse barn close to the walls.;)

Side plates... 15.5"x2'
4"x4" square tube, or.. 4x4 angle iron (whichever is cheaper;))
3"x1/4"x6' flat bar..(for rear blade mount)
misc gussets and such and shanks.
And a 9' grader blade on hand for the rear most/reverse blade..
Hoping to come in under $200 if possible.
Open to all suggestions on using 6 shanks or 7 shanks (which is how I have it layed out now), pros and cons welcome!!!

I am wanting to use 1/2" bolts on the original blade (as seen in a pic of blue tape and black circles, pic 2, blue tape would be 1/2"x1/2" angle iron), and the mock-up center U-Bolt on the main frame to conect the units together, with a 4-6" "shim" to take up the difference. Hoping to undo.. 8 bolts and raise "main blade" up and over the box unit if I need the blade alone.

Thanks for the help fellas!!!:drink:

The week point I would think of is the area I circled in red. Imagine all the scarifyers down and the blade full of material. I imagine you don't plan on angling it, still it was designed for a different purpose.

The other thing is that the grader blade sits further behind the tractor so you can angle it. If you leave that distance the same as it is now it will have a lot of torque to move around your tractor (loaded box blade) as you make corrections in the direction of travel.

Also it might work just fine.

Thanks easy...

As for what I intend to use it for is..

Cleaning manure from the horse barn every spring in combo with the FEL
Pulling small piles of snow from in front of my garage out so the front blower can huck it away
and maybe a couple hrs a yr working my horse corrals to allow better spring draining.

Not too much real "hard" work. As for the weak point you mentioned, well that pivot pin is 2" solid shaft there surrounded by lots of 1/2" plate and gussets!!!! Don't think my lil 3720 would or could hurt that area (but chit happens I know;)) lol

I think I'm gonna try it anyhow, even if it only gets used for the snow part. Gonna be better than just the blade spitting snow out both sides when its full;)

For what you are describing I think it would be a good match. The modifications you describe will increase the usefulness of the implement. I mentioned those points because I have seen a fair size rear blade fail there. I only have experience with my 6' grader blade that for sure will start pushing my tractor around if angled and full of gravel.

Please take pictures as you do this and keep us posted.
