Npalen and country, both are reasonable suggestions but Richard already tried that with no success. I do believe if we could find a real fix to this issue, we would save a lot of frustration for those with this issue. It still boggles my mind how some experience this problem while others don't. It really could be the different ways we use the top link. :confused3:

I previously carried a 10ft 3pt brush cutter which loaded the top link heavily. I've since sold that. So now the only time I load it and move it is with my BB. It's a 7ft LP hydraulic scarifier unit. Very heavy. I "think" anytime I extend my top link while carrying the BB I risk sucking air.

I need to order a DPCV and put it on my top link in hopes of stopping the issue. I never use float.

Could there be a pin hole in one of the hoses that lets air in during a vacuum but seals when the hose is under pressure? Just a wild thought.

I've thought about that. I've also thought about air being sucked in at the rod gland. Both are highly unlikely, but possible.

If it where sucking air from outside the system I’d think more likely around the Orings for the couplers.

I’ve thought about removing my check valve on my top link and run with out it a bit just to see what happens, my big twin spindle cutter or ballast block is about the heaviest thing I’d have to extend the top link while raised to try and duplicate this issue.

One of the things I thought of that others may have already realize is it takes far less air to see a negative impact in a top link cylinder because of the smaller volume. In a standard loader, you normally have larger cylinders and two tied together. That being said, even a small leak or depending how a system returns to tank could create these symptoms.

Good point! Seems like there could be a siphoning action involved because of the downhill course in return to tank. The DPOC (Double Pilot Operated Check valve) would eliminate most of this but might still be a bit of air introduced between the DPOC and the valve.

The problem I see, is once the DPOC is open, it is no different then just a straight hose. It still can pull air. Once air is in the system, the DPOC won't hold because the air can compress. No different than when you tried with the hoses disconnected. I hate to see you spend more money and get the same results.

It is all about keeping the air out in the first place.

If a valve is leaking bad internally, then a DPOC will work great! JMO

The DPOC will only open with a certain pressure from the valve, it will open both check valves. So unless the air is being introduced through the cylinder, there is no way for air to get into the cylinder, after it gets cycled a couple of times after install of course.

And if the weight takes over, like it's happening here, the way the DPCV work, won't let that happen because it will then lose pressure on the remote side and will close the check valves.

Well now he will have to get a DPCV and see who is right.

If he does, I hope ptsg wins!
