Rear Hydraulics Redux

Stopped by the dealer today to discuss adding rear hydraulics today for my 970. (to run a top link hydraulics cylinder on a 3 pt hitch concrete mixer)

Dealer sez "Do you need to use the FEL and rear cylinder simultaneously"? I say no. He sez "Heck, if I were you, I wouldn't spend any extra money; just put a longer hose on the rear cylinder, unplug the bucket curl cylinder lines, plug in the rear cylinder and use the bucket curl valve to control the rear cylinder."

Sounds like a pretty good plan to me. In fact, other rear hydraulic uses I envisioned would work OK in this manner as well.

Anybody else face a similar situation with the same fix?

That is what I did on my 4300 for the angle cylinder on my rear blade. My new tractor ( 4520 ) ,that I should get Tuesday, has a diverter valve on it so I will have a set of connectors at the rear and for the FEL I also will have a third valve for the 4-in-1 bucket. I decided to spend the $$ as it became a pain to fish the hoses out of the way, clean the connectors, swap and somehow in the middle of the job I seem to always needed to use the bucket.

Your application may vary, professional driver in a fenced field, results may not be typical, it will take longer and they are watching you.

The electric diverter (two more circuits) is salty. The third SCV isn't so bad -- 300-ish for a 4410, maybe about that for yours.

I would NOT do anything that would disable my FEL while using any other implement. I just cannot imagine being on my tractor and having a disabled FEL. To me, it would be like tying one arm behind my back -- I might be able to accomplish the task at hand, but it wouldn't be pretty!

Yeah, I hear ya; I'm concerned about disabling the FEL, and the hassle of swapping hoses. Actually, it is only one hose now I think of it; it's a single acting cylinder.

For the concrete mixer, however, I can't think of a reason I need to curl the bucket though. I can envision needing the loader to move the bags of concrete from truck to job, but I won't need to curl the bucket; it will be fixed in one place. (loader will still go up and down)

I run a 2-way cylinder off the power-beyond circuit at the rear of my 970. I use it to tilt the BB. I've noted on this forum that JD has an optional 4 valve rear mounted configuration for the 870-1070 tractors. Don't know exactly how it's plumbed in with the SCV or if you have the power-beyond setup but it's out there. Was mentioned that the parts are becoming hard to find as well. Hope this helps. AKfish

Can you post a picture of your setup and maybe part numbers? I would definitely like to have a setup similar to yours to rotate my rear snow blower chute!
