In lieu of square plug one might consider a short nipple piece and a pipe cap so you can get a pipe wrench on, of course if you have room. I know the thread might not be NTP.

Well, I'm glad you didn't listen to me and finally got the plug out.:) Did you see any indication why the plug was so seized up? Do you thnk moisture condensation may have settled around the plug an caused this? I've never had problems with the plugs on my tractor, so this really surprised me. How much additional oil did you get out with the plug removed?

My bet was it ws the 800# gorilla that the PO used to tighten it.

I've worked on some old fords that the PO was too cheap to get a new 50 cent gasket.. or to make one out of cardboard.. and used an 800# gorilla instead..

thread deformation as a means to sealing a leak gets real close and personl after you let it set there fro 50 years!

1. Impact wrench.

2. If you don't have one get your biggest hammer (3 lb minimum) put a standard ratchet in the square hole, take up all the slack with hand pressure, and give the wrench handle the heftiest whack you can muster. Hard enough that you are 100% certain you are going to break something.

3. Now that you have it off, use anti-seize on the new one. Either the copper or the nickel type, doesn't matter for this application.

Remind me not to buy your used ratchets!
