What the purpose for the rear tire reversal for wider wheelbase? Is that used mostly on rougher terrain for stability. I've seen numerous posts on this and wondered why folks flip em around. The previos owner flipped mine and it makes it a real chore to get to the valvestems. I just haven't taken the time to change them back

A wider rear stance makes a much more stable machine. A couple inches wider & fliud can make a totally different machine.

Or, clearence issues - to match the row width of corn or beans - but that wouldn't be an issue for a CUT used to mow lowns.;)

My tractor came from the factory with the valve stems on the inside of the rear wheels. That means brush and limbs don't get to them as easily. The front wheels have the stems on the outside, but they have a protective cover built over them.

Thanks Paul,
So I guess if there's no downside and I dont have any clearance issues, I should leave the tractor with the wider stance.

Turned myn out for the lil extra room (1-2in) while hooking up my equipment. Plus I do cut a fairly steep slope so I figured it couldn't hurt. Didn't think about brush snagging the stems...

"Brush and limbs don't get to them as easily".

Never thought of that. I've been working with a Brush Hog in some really fiece briars, brambles, rosehips, I've got about an acre left to clear. It sounds like I better leave them that way.

It sounds like the standard setup if the wider stance!

Thanks guys!

Ohio Guy:
I keep meaning to turn mine out because my snow chains every now & then rub into the lift arm stabilizers making a horrible sound and it can't be good for either the chains or the stabilizers. That extra 2" would eliminate the contact. I will definately do it before next Winter! I also mow on some hilly terrain and as someone else said, it can't hurt to have a little more stability.

I'm going to measure the rear wheel rim offset this weekend, I'm curious how much difference it makes. I'm guessing 4 to 8 " overall?

It was 52 here this AM, baseball spring training starts next week, we'll be outdoors playin in NE Ohio before you know it! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
