I have a JD4520 with a 400X FEL that I would like to mount a rear view mirror (maybe 2). Anyone have an idea how it could be done---and the type of mirror?

Not sure if this is what you want but...
I mounted 2 spot mirrors on my loader uprights(one on each side). The cost about $2.00 each at WallyWorld. It is not the best, but they are helpful.

The other choice is to get a canopy and mount on up there, but that'l cost $400-$500 smackers...

See attached pic...

If you go to "Paynes Forks" online I think you will find a pretty well designed "clamp-on" mirror. It is designed to clamp, via rubber coated spring bar to the loader arm/arms.

Thats the idea I have but havn't done it yet....

Wasn't sure just how much usefull visibility I would gain..

tom

Just how much help is it ?

Can you see the edge of say 84 " equipment as it hopefully clears obstacles ?

Well, for less than $5.00 its worth a try! It does help me, as far as a 84" attachment, you will have to find out on your own, I have nothing that big. I did run a 5' seeder, probably 66" overall width and could see it.

Check out part numbers AL58554 (1), M118822 (2), and, AM127113 (5), on JDParts. Deere puts it on the grab handle for European tractors....

I realize this would be more expensive, but it is an idea...

I bought 8" stainless steel convex mirrors at the local truck supply / parts store. Bolted the mirrors to the 10mm holes supplied on the back side of my 410 loader uprights. If no supplied holes, a 5/16" drill bit can produce the very same results!
The mirrors came with a 3" extension arm which could be used to raise the mirors (lifting or projecting the mirror, say, outward. The 8" convex work great for my failing sight and sore neck!!
Good luck!

I took enough 1 1/2" angle iron to run from those fancy holes at the top inside of my FEL uprights up to the height of the top of the ROPS, connected them together with a similar piece of angle, them set a piece of 3/4" plywood running from midpoint of the hood to a foot beyond the ROPS. I then bolted the plywood to the angle and clamped it to the ROPS with 3/8 "U" bolts. Ran wires up the inside of the ROPS for the lights, radio, cigar lighter(power outlet). Mounted a 8" convex mirror on the angle iron cross piece . I also ran the wires back down the left side angle to switches that I can reach as I mount or dismount.(the coat hooks are on the right hand angle, I tried them on the ROPS but my jacket blew off and I didn't notice it till I was two miles down the trail) The plywood won't stand up to a tree falling on it but it has stopped a few rotten branches and all kinds of rain and snow. It is also a handy work platform for tree trimming, changing bulbs in the barn etc ...Pat

go to a dealer or an auto supply store , they will have an abundant selection. i have 2 on my tractor and they work ok but the vehicles i see are Really small and they are a lot closer than appears in the mirrors.
