Rearranging FEL Hydrualics

I know of someone that had a Puegoet? that had an H 4 speed pattern on the column, and reverse was up and forward (towards the windsheild) of the H pattern. Weirdest thing I ever tried to drive, but that thing would scat when needed.

Rip, you are exactly right about what would happen with the float position and a load. Having the load over something and then have it suddenly drop is pretty scary. Also many bucket dump circuits have a regenerative postion so the bucket will dump faster. If you reverse the hoses to the curl cylinders, that would put the regenerative function on the wrong direction. I'd strongly recommend leaving the FEL hoses just like they are.

On a different note, if you have remote hydraulics on the rear or front of your tractor, those can be reversed for your preference. The same problems will not show up as with FEL controls. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I would leave the factory arrangement too;

on other note, I had an old 62 ford truck with orriginal 3spd on the tree trans, had to convert to floor shift, with a junkyard shifter after cab mount rotted enough to bind the shift on tree. needless tosay the arrangement on the floor ended up being a FUN to freak out people, one and two were both back, while 3 & R were UP it was pretty easy to try and grab R instead of 3rd! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif made for soem ineteresting noise to say the least. what was better was watsh someone else try and learn to drive it, my brother managed to go from 1st into R one day! lol I think there was still a nose print on the whindshield when I sold it! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

To all the posters, thanks for your thoughts and concerns. The safety issue pointed out is what will prevent me from changing the arrangment. I guess with my ignorance of hyraulics I never thought of that. OK, so I'll learn the right way. It's just frustrating to keep poping the front end off the ground when I want to go up... But this old dog will learn new tricks.

Thanks again.

yea with a little practice you can learn it then you will know the standard pattern for the future, just like at work we have a couple standup style forklifts and a traditional style forklift, i originaly had just used the traditional style one so when i started using the stand up ones the steering was the opposite way, i came real close to hitting a few walls with it till i got used to it, now i can drive either one just fine, same thing with loaders, cat loaders used a different valve setup, the bucket curl was pushed forward to curl the bucket back, the idea was that way you could raise the loader and curl the bucket at the same time since both levers went the same way

Though I see you've made your decision (a good one I think), I'd offer to look at it this way...

when you "pull the control back" you are "pulling" the bucket of dirt up, when you push it away, you are pushing the bucket down

aww..forget it, just listen to the others

I too would recommend leaving them as they are... but if you must reverse them, you could do so safely. Remove all four hoses. Turn the entire joystick assembly 180 degrees. Then plug in the curl cylinders so they were standard and plug in the boom cylinders so they make sense to you. Since you did a 180 on the whole assembly, the float would still be when lowering the boom and all would be fine. (This might mess up the quick dump feature though...)

Just a thought.
