Reasonable breakage or should I be upset?

My TC 29D lost a water pump at 1000 hours. I saw the leakage and replaced before anything severe happened. Dealer told me 1000 hours was about the average life.

My water pump failed as well on my 2120 at about 800 Hrs. It was due to the weep hole getting plugged with dust. The weep hole is in between the shaft seal and the front bearing. It's designed to allow a small amount of coolant to lubricate the ceramic face seal and then weep out. When the hole becomes plugged the coolant leaks into the bearings. This can happen due too daily temp changes when the unit is just sitting. After all, the system is under about 15psi. I now check the weep hole and clean it out at each 100 hr service. I'd say it's a design flaw, as the hole is about 3/16" dia. and would be better with a larger dia. Antifreeze and dust forms a paste that dries like concrete.
So, everyone with a long shaft water pump go get a paperclip and check the weep hole..
I'd write NH a letter and stated others have complained of the same.

Around here there is some kind of flying bug, maybe a tiny mud wasp thing?, that loves to plug up any small holes, up to maybe 1/4" but they typically like smaller holes. A water pump weep hole sitting there for a week is a sure target.

I've never been up north, but down here those are called dirt dobbers. The resemble a wasp or waustez(more than one wasp). They also stop up small holes, including the key hole for my tractor and lawn mower.
