I worked grocery retail too as a slave, err I mean manager.

and the "gross" markup on just about everything is 33 to 50% depending on items

Net is about 1 to 2% overall after all those little items like wages, rent, utilities, etc.

Hi Guys
Sorry, I missed the part about them being genuine parts. Sounds like the guy is unreasonable. Maybe life is just too easy for him at the moment or it's that hard he cant move or just plain unreasonable. Maybe hes got some other problems or just unreasonable!!! Seems the same answer all round. Best of luck dealing with him.

There are some unreasonable markups in some of the farm dealers here. We had to repair a baler one time and it cost a darned fortune for tiny springs and things.

I did mention that. I called other new holland dealers. They are selling genuine parts. The exact same part numbers and everything. I even asked them that specifically when I called.
This parts guy came an inch short of calling me a liar on the price for that fuel filter housing he tried to charge me for. He did not budge on the price one bit even after I gave him the name and number of 3 different dealers selling it a LOT LOT lower than him. That's not good business at all. I'm not paying for it though so it doesn't really matter. If he tries to charge me for it still then it will be taken up in a different way with someone that can straighten this out.
The term "Genuine NH, JG, Kubota, ETC Parts" Is a joke. None of the manufacturers make their own filters, bearings, electronic components, tires, water pumps, batteries, clutch parts, alternators, A/C, etc. The list is so long I do not have time. Take into account that often the same part is available from the same OEM Part MFG from other sources. Most of the tractor MFG's have a drop ship program direct from the filter MFG for large dealers selling a large volume of filters. The price is the only difference. Smaller dealers just have a disadvantage on some items.

Take for instance many wear items are better in the aftermarket than the OEM part from JD, NH, MF, etc.

That is true. I used to work at a big machine shop in Pa that made engine and transmission parts for two large heavy equipment manufactures . The manufacturers were really nothing more than parts assembly plants.
These companies always farm out parts these days. Some of them to the lowest bidder and some to the best manufacturer. You do get what you pay for with some companies still. The ones I made parts for were so picky they would send back a whole truckload of new parts if their QC department found one single item that ours missed. I like quality like that personally and I don't mind paying a premium for a part I know will be good. Like an original OEM farmall part. They made stuff to last back then. I don't mind paying more for a OEM New holland part than an equivalent aftermarket part either. As long as the dealer isn't charging more than a hundred percent markup over another dealers list price. That's what gets me.
