I'm glad it's not my imagination. I hope someone has tried Amsoil because I'm interested in it too.

On the recommendation of several of our forum members, I used Amsoil hydraulic fluid in my B2710. I thought maybe it ran a little cooler and quieter, but not really sure that it made a difference. I'm convinced that it's as good as Super UDT, not at all convinced it's better, although I'm certainly no expert. I don't think I'll be using any of their products in the future simply because I don't like multi-level marketing.

I purchased a new L-3130 GST L-723FEL, TNT, etc. last year ago October, currently it has 450 hard core hours of work on it.

At the first oil and tranny change out, I changed the oil and hydraulic filters and filled the engine with Amsoil 10W-40 Full Group IV Synthetic(which I've been using in our two VW Turbocharged DI diesels for the last seven years now with 10,000 mile changeouts). I also filled the tranny and front axles with Amsoil Full Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid SAE 30W.

I immediately noticed an enhanced operation of the FEL, Three Point hitch, and the GST tranny engagement, all of which operated faster and quieter as well as took less time to warm up to operating temperature.

At the 400 hours service, I continued to use the Amsoil 10W-40 Full Group IV Synthetic in the engine, however I had been to the Kabota dealer to purchase a new ZD-21 super diesel mower and part of the deal on that was the inclusion of 20 gallons of Kubota UDT 30W hydraulic fluid. I immediately noticed a much increase "harshness" of the GST engagement as well as slower operation of the FEL and 3-point hitch and also a much increased warm up to operational temperature of the hydraulic equipment (we are in Florida so cold weather operation is not much of a problem).

Overall, I am NOT impressed with the stock straight 30W hydraulic fluids operation and definetly am going back to using the Full Synthetic Amsoil 30W hydraulic fluid in the future (I have 20 gallons in the barn for future use). I am also going to pay CLOSE ATTENTION to the amount of metallic debris clinging the the round magnet in the top of the GST hydraulic filter as I know that the Amsoil was extremely clean during the first 250 hrs of operation, if the Kubota UDT is NOT, I will know for certain that I am sticking with the Full Synthetic Amsoil hydraulic fluid.

Based on my experience, I would imagine that an HST would greatly improve with the use of a Full Group IV Synthetic Hydraulic fluid like the Kubota Super UDT or the Amsoil Synthetic Hydraulic fluid and I would GLADLY pay extra money for the extra performance and protection.
BTW, I did try to get the Super UDT Full Synthetic from the dealer to try it out and compare it to the Amsoil Full Synthetic, but they did not have any, so I got the UDT instead.

The tractor I speak of was a B7200 and the “true synthetic” was Amsoil. I mention the brand hesitantly because in reviewing my last post I find the phrase “true synthetic” to sound snobbish. What I should have written was 100% synthetic.

I no longer own the B7200. But when I bought it about 18 months ago I used it for a few hours and then changed all the fluids (Kubota Oil and SuperUDT.) I noticed that the HST ran a bit smoother with fresh oil. A few months later I was placing an order for Amsoil for my cars and decided to make the switch for the tractor. I am not a dealer; I occasionally join their preferred buyer club for six months and load up on a year or two worth of lubricants for the cars. The discount far exceeds the $10 fee. Anyway I was replacing the leaking seals around the brakes on the tractor and was concerned about the contamination of the hydraulic fluid so I changed it and put in the Amsoil. The HST seemed to run smoother. This isn’t scientific it’s just a gut feel.

Now I’ve moved on to a BX23. Fast approaching 50 hours and the engine will get the Amsoil 3000 Diesel oil (because I have it) and the HST will get SuperUDT.

My reasoning for synthetics comes down to two things:
1. Cold temperature flow. The lighter the oil is at startup the less damage that is done during initial pressure buildup and warm-up. Synthetics are better in cold weather.
2. Long periods of time between changes. I am not a professional user. I am a homeowner who like to toy around on my tractor. I may put 75 to 100 hours a year on it which means that the fluids are not changed in a time interval that I am comfortable using dino oils with.

I really do not have a firm loyalty to a brand although I do like the Amsoil stuff right now because it is one stop shopping. I place an order on the web for my motor oil, hydraulic oil, 2 stroke oil, grease, fuel additives, and even their filters and they deliver it to my door a few days later.

I think other brands of synthetics are good too so I’ll leave the brand discussions to the other zealots.

All Posters,

I have been watching the discussions about Super UDT Regular UDT .....for awhile now. I am confused, I need to do my 50 hour maint. on my BX23 and when I went to a local Kubota dealer to get my filters, oil, etc. They told me not to bother with the Super UDT (or Kubota Brand Oil all together) and sold me Valvoline Premium Universal Tractor Fluid? I was not sure I wanted to use that oil now I am even more unsure. The dealer is not the dealer I bought Tractor from but I would think they would know better then I would.

I called my local dealer today and they too didn't know about Super UDT or what it was. They did stock regular UDT, at $53 for 20L pail (5gal). I can only imagine how much the Super oil was.

These dealers are scaring me I hope you don't ever have any real warranty issued with your tractor. I would be leery of anything that dealer says. Buy your service supplies some where else. If they never heard of the fluid Kubota recommends for your tractor than they are not qualified to touch it never mind sell new kubotas

I would call kubota and inform them of how this dealer does business.

When I went into my dealer to get 50 hour service parts he said "you will need almost 5 gal of SUPER UDT do you want it in a 5 gal pail, or in 2.5 gal jugs". My dealer specifies Super UDT.

I paid $63.92 for 5 gal of Super UDT at my dealer (2-2.5 gal jugs).

Tractorsmart has 2.5 gal jugs for $33.00 ea. So my dealer was $2 cheaper. Again these guys are so helpful I would have paid a premium for their good service. I got good service and a lower price.

Tractorsmart website has quite a lengthy write up on the advantages of Super UDT. Check it out.

I am sure that their is an equivalent fluid out there Amsoil perhaps. I don't know. and until I do I'm going to continue to use what Kubota and my dealer specifies.

I tend to use what the manufacturer recommends. I feel that they know best what fluids should be put into the tractor. I know that Kubota ships the BX 22 with Super UDT. My dealer sells Super UDT for $65.00 per 5 gallons. I will change hydro oil, at most, once a year. At $5.50 per month for using what the manufacturer recommends, it is worth the piece of mind. I would return the product that the dealer sold you and seek out the Kubota Super UDT. Dealers know about a lot of products, but the one thing that they know best, is how much profit they can make. I have a feeling that the Kubota fluids are not as profitable for the dealers as the non Kubota products. If you are ever unsure about fluids, then just follow the suggest products in the owners manual. Use Kubota Super UDT...

That is $3.25 per Qt for Super UDT vs 2.25 per Qt for a fluid of unknown performance in our equipment.

If all these dealers are concerned with is the profit margin on a bucket of lube. Instead of customer satisfaction and equipment longevity. They are missing the big picture. It will bite them sooner or later.

Brian, I don't think you need to worry about damage or failure. The main differences will be in performance. Like Junkman said, finding and using the Super would be the best chioce, but if you've already done the change, don't sweat it. Switch to what you want the next time.

I should mention that this price was Canadian, so it'll be less for the American TBNers.

My manual reccomends regular UDT for the tranny. As I mentioned before, I think super UDT wasn't around back when the manual was written. At 2130 hours and still going strong, I feel safe with regular UDT. Like familyman said, performance will be the issue, not quality.
