Rebar supports in a slab

That's a good way to save some dollars. I'm no expert but I always wondered if some designs/brands of the plastic chairs made a void or weak spot in the concrete.

What are you parking on your floor that requires the additional strength of rebar?

Nothing, it is just something I have wondered about for a long time.

Rebar in a properly prepared and poured homeowner concrete floor, is a major waste of time and money.

100% disagree.

Rebar is the most cost effective method to keep your concrete together that works every time when the basics are followed.

A properly designed slab (including foundation) properly placed and poured to design specs on top of properly compacted and or tested ground...is not going anywhere...control joints work...in many places in the country (void of earthquakes etc...) there is no reason to put rebar in a residential slab...like I said above...there are no forces that would/will cause controlled cracks from separating beyond the limits of fiber and or wire mesh reinforcing...

There is a wealth of misinformation floating around on proper concrete placement.
The American Concrete Institute is a good fact source.

Check price of adding fiber to concrete instead of the rebar. Fiber stops cracks before they can grow much in length

Yep....I have a 16,000 lb tractor and 7,000 lb bailer sitting in my tin shed and the concrete hasn't moved a bit.
