Loader Rebuild Cylinder and Valve Question

Have you removed the spool to check for debris? Bits of rubber, metal, etc.

With everything removed from the spool, lube it and slide it in the valve housing and see if it is binding, or hanging on anything. If you mark the way it is now, you can rotate it 180 degrees and reconnect everything and check for smooth action.

When I rebuilt my cylinder- I just took it off and took it apart. I cleaned everything so its not oily to transport and took it to my local hydraulic shop and they matched up the seals by taking measurements on the spot and gave me everything I needed.

I'd follow JJ advice for the spool issues. he gives out good advice.

I have not removed the spool. Excuse my ignorance, but which part is actually the spool?

In our neighborhood, it's "Air and Hydraulic Equipment" Air and Hydraulic Equipment, Inc. An Employee owned Company

I used them after talking to one of our old-timer equipment operators at a grading company who recommended them.

I'm sure there is a similar outfit somewhere near you in TX.

The spool is the part that looks like a shaft that has grooves cut in it.

The grooves are cut to preform different functions.

Here are some spools.

When you remove the bottom cap and parts , and the lever, the spool should slide out.

Thanks all for the help. Great advice. After further inspection, it was rusty crud in the spool cap that was binding the joystick. And as y'all advised the magnet was a good idea as I learned there are 5 ball bearings that want to roll out. I got it all back together and it operates smoothly now!

Today I pick up the bucket cylinder rebuild kit from my dealer. It's a minor leak/drip, but that will be my next repair.
