slowly rebuiding an old offset disc.
I ordered new discs and the hole where the 1 1/8 " square axle/gang bolt goes through the disc is 1/8" too big. The guy at the shop said that is the way it is supposed to be sloppy, but the old one's fit snug. I need some more clarification that the discs are supposed to be tight.

I'm only familiar with blades that fit tight on the shaft. Some come punched with a star pattern of 8 points - 2 different sizes. Loose blades would not line up quite right.

You could look at Shoup (probably the likely web address...) to compare different disk parts.

I think it's Shoup Manufacturing Company

There are two sizes for axels 1" and 1 1/8", sounds like you got the wrong size. I replaced an axel this summer on a Hardee and there was no "slop" on mine.
