Receiver hitch on BX FEL Bucket

I wasn't planning on using this for anything heavy but....
I was dragging a fir log and lifted the butt end over another log.
Now the top of my bucket has a shallow V shape.
I know I should have been using my pair of hooks instead of the
center tube...
Out come the hydraulic jacks....

I had been jealous for a long time of those folks who were able to mount hitch balls on their buckets to move trailers around with. I could not weld anything on the bottom front because I put on and take off my tooth bar pretty regularly. I did not want to weld it to the top because it would be too high (especially if I tried to tilt the bucket forward with the teeth on).

So .... this is what I came up with for a temporary solution. It has worked so well that I have no plans to change it. It also has the added benefit of helping to pick up 3 point implements without having to get off the seat. I thought I would have to remove the hitch ball more often because it would get in the way, but for the most part, it does not bother anything. I am also planning on making a short boom pole to put in there. I did build a cap for it, but I have yet to use it and I move lots of gravel etc.

Paul, this looks perfect, and in fact, I already bought a piece of square tubing to weld on, but can you tell me why you did not weld the receiver flat against the top of the bucket rather than instal a little triangle like you have. (On the outside of the bucket where your weld is, there is some reinforcing plate steel, and also two frame pieces, so I imagine that a flat-on weld along both sides of about 10" of tubing would be pretty strong and not bend the bucket.)

Anyone else care to comment as well?

Thanks,

J.

I have one mounted to the top. I love it!!!! I have slid a tow Ball into the reciever, I use either a drop hitch or a regular one, you can see the regular one better when using it to hook up to a trailer. I also have a hook, and a pintle hook, and recently I've cut up an old pallet jack and welded square tube to the top and use that for a "weak" forklift. It works good for branches and crap as well. The tilt is pretty touchy, but with practice and patience, I'm getting better. I'll take some pics and try to post 'em tomorrow.

BX24, Could you post a picture of your front bumper? I like the looks of that as well, but can't see it clearly.
