Does anyone recognize the brand of this box blade? I thought it was an older Howse Implement 5.5' box blade. However, I looked on the Howse website and their box blade does not look quite the same. Did they change their design along the way or is this not a Howse brand?

You will notice that the supporting brackets for the top link bracket are gone. It is also missing the lower Cat.1 pins. I'm trying to find out the brand so I can order some new ones.

I appreciate your help.

The lower cat 1 pins can be found at almost any farm supply store.

I bought a tractor to resell a couple summers back. It came with a box that looked remarkably like that one. It was an "LMC" brand. (Lowery Manufacturing Co?) Either from Alabama or Georgia as I recall.

It could also be King Kutter. Has that "look" to it.

I already have new pins but I'm looking for the brace bars. The more I look around I'm thinking that they are all about the same and I could probably get them from anywhere regardless of brand. I'm also thinking that I should replace the entire A-frame assembly with a heavy duty 1-piece unit.

Farmwithjunk, it does look alot like a King Kutter.

I tried to find a picture of a Lowery unit but I could not find anything on line.

If you have a welding / fabrication shop in the area they would be able to set you up for less money and more than likely even heavier duty parts.

Tracecom, it looks similar to the AMC one, however, from looking at their website they only seem to make a 60" box blade and the one I have is a 66" box blade.

King Kutter has a great online parts manual. I have attached the box blade parts page (PDF) for others. I can order the lift arm braces online at $35 each. Even if this is not a King Kutter, it seems like these would work for me.

The only thing that differs from the King Kutter is that mine seems to have replaceable teeth and KK unit has welded teeth.

I could also opt for the Heavy Duty 1-Piece A-Frame as pictured in the GIF attachment but these are around $80 each.

Do you think the lift arm braces will hold up for me or should I go with the heavy duty single piece brackets? The Box Blade will be attached to a JD 3320.

I agree. for what you will pay for factory brackets a welding shop will reinforce this blade way beyond factory specs. I've got a welder and torch. I'm guessing if I bought new metal, for $10 I could make it stronger than new.

I sandblasted and painted my rusty old box blade. I used a yellow that was already on the shelf. If I feel like it, I may give it a coat of JD Green or Yellow the next time around. It was a quick and dirty paint job. I have attached some pictures.

I have already installed the missing lift arm braces and cat 1 pins (not pictured). I also made it iMatch compatible. I will post some pictures of the complete unit sometime this week.

After using the box blade today, I quickly realize why people rave about hydraulic top links. I think I will be adding one shortly. I'm glad I decided to get the 3rd SCV on my tractor. I'm also wishing I had hydraulic or mechanical scarifier control. I'm thinking about making a mechanical control mechanism for it; something similar to the Land Pride MR15 series. Has anyone out there modified their box blade to provide mechanical scarifier control?

I ended up ordering my lift arm braces from King Kutter. KK makes it very easy to order parts online and they were very prompt in their shipment. However, either my Box Blade is not a King Kutter or they have changed their design slightly since this one was purchased. I say this because the lift arms braces I received did not match up to the existing holes of the lift arms and horizontal braces. Not a huge deal.

I redrilled the holes on the horizontal braces. I also redrilled the holes on the lift arms to line up with my iMatch. I ordered a JD iMatch Bushing Kit for the upper and lower links. I love having the iMatch! It makes attachment hookup so fast.

After several hours of use, the paint is coming off of the scarifiers, which I assumed, but it seems to be holding up well everywhere else, which is surprising.

3RRL did a beautiful job on modifying his boxblade to raise and lower his scarifiers. He used his hydraulics and a geared mechanism for raising and lowering the teeth. I believe he also has the hydraulic operated top link that your looking at also.

Thank you for the compliment, Scotty. I also have the CCM hyd top link but not the side link "tilt" system yet. I've ordered a valve and cylinders for that project and will post a thread later.

Neophyte,
Here is the link to my modification Gear Driven Hydraulic Scarifier System
Hope you enjoy the thread.

3RRL, I don't think that qualifies as a modification as much as it does a genesis! You are a wild man. Impressive wouldn't even begin to describe that project. Needless to say, I don't think I will be doing something similar; I'm too lazy. I was thinking more of a day project.

Is CCM the place to go for a hydraulic top link?

Yes, IMO CCM is the place to go...if they have them in stock. It will cost you about as much in labor and materials to make one up yourself, but it may not stack up to the quality of CCM???

I'm glad you liked my boxblade mod....I use the heck out of it. It was such a pain to switch the scarifier height (7 of them) that I got lazy and tried to srape areas that needed ripping...that didn't work so I made the system. Now it's easy. The video really shows how easy it works, huh?

I did get some information on the Prince DPOCV sold by Surplus Center. Their technical sales person, John Burden told me the cracking pressure is 4:1, meaning on a 3,000psi system, it cracks @ 750psi. So I ordered 2 and will try them out. I also decided to hard-plumb them myself...we'll see how that turns out.
