Recomendations on this welder

I need a small welder for 1/4" or less material. Mostly a repair or small fabrication around the farm. I have a ancient Lincoln with the big adjustment wheel here at home. I would like to be able to run this off a generator in the back of my UTV to make it more portable,

Could some of you guys that know about welding advise me on this unit or perhaps another one.

1/4 inch steel is going to be at the upperlimit of a 120 volt machine.

The better ones are going to cost a bit more than you are thinking of. Like in the $500 range. I hear that Lincoln is the best for the 120 volt machines. Look for ones that have continuous voltage control vs. tapped voltage control. Welders you get at home depot, or lowes are low end crap. Go to your local welding supply (LWS) and see what they have. For the same money, you could buy a much more capable stick welder, unless you need to work on thinner stock much of the time.

well, i have a Lincoln 120v wire feed that gets alot of use, and has so foir over 8 years. Cost me about $280-300 at Home Depot. Worth every penny.

Now qas for working 1/4' stock, i like my wire feed unit better than a 120v mig. Better penetration on the thicker metals. Ive personally haven't had much luck with a 120v mig on 1/4" plate.

Also the Lincoln unit accepts shielding gas unit, the northern unit doesn't.

I have one and it does well even on 1/4", if u take it slow but on 1/4" it doesn't have a very long duty cycle.

Forty plus years ago I learned to weld using an old buzz box that was too hot on one selection and too cold on the next one down to weld galvanized 16 ga horse panels. I can still weld 16 ga galvanzied fence tubing with stick. We used 3/32 6011 btw.

You can weld thin stuff with stick if you try.

yup yup yup. I have this machine for one reason and one reason only..... i have to repair alot of horse panels on my place, and the 120v wire feed unit does a great job at that.....with available 120 outlets. The horse panels are too thin to weld with stick unit. Wire feed does an excellent job.

Im in the market for a 220 volt hobart wire feed unit...but its still a ways down on my need to buy list. when ive saves enough cash....its all mine.

What about the Lincoln 'Tombstone' welders?? Good enough or not enough??

I only need to repair and light fab work around the hunting camp/ farm and no heavy fab work.

I ask the same question a few months ago. the smart guys suggest me to look for one of this

I wish I would have waited until the PA-300 came out, instead of buying the PA-200! I most likely would not of bought the V350-Pro. For the money the PA-200 has the best arc I have ever seen. Longevity's Stickweld 250 is more money, but a lot nicer machine than the PA-200 because of the adjustable hot start and arc force. I think it runs 7018 better than the V350-Pro. I'd love to get my hands on a PA-300 to see how it runs! :drool:

Funny.. Before this post I was going to pm you to ask what you think of the everlast and longevity welders.. I respect your opinion highly.
