recomended gear oil for front axle

I'm not so sure about that...but in any case, the front end probably holds less than the tranny? I use gear oil in the front end too...85w140 and it works good. I imagine those front end gears are never spinning fast enough where a thicker gear oil would hurt them.

I was looking at a synthetic 75W90 type oil but I can't find one that mentions compatability with wet disk brakes.

I was under the impression that the front end has no brakes. The only way to get front braking is by engaging 4wd. If that is true then your front axle has nothing in it but gears and bearings and compatability with wet brakes is of no issue.

My tractor has HST tranny...and uses UDT..OR..SUDT in the tranny...also acts as my HYD fluid..and also lubricates my REAR differential..? Right?

If so..WHY would I use something DIFFERENT in the front differential..that the rear one that definately gets "worked" a lot more?

The prices Ive seen on 80-90 are so close to the price of SUDT...the difference doesnt amount to doodlie one way or the other..( And SYN gear oil is a LOT higher)

Based on bill it looks like 80w90 runs about 4-5 dollars per gallon cheaper which is only about $10 cheaper for the 2.25 gal. required for front axle on 5030. Cost was not really a consideration as I just wanted to use what was best.

Based on recommendation of both dealers and fact that my father always had plenty of heavy equipment (backhoes, loaders, dozers) all of which used 80w90 w/o issue I decided to take their recommendation and use the 80w90. I will be using it for plowing snow in winter and although our temps usually are not ridiculously cold, below zero is possible and single digits/teens is not unusual at all so that is my only concern at this point. Manual for the 5030 states "Kubota UDT or Super UDT fluid or SAE 80-SAE90 gear oil" and does not seem to recommend one over the other. No footnotes to use one for specific temps etc. like it states for weights of engine oil.

My personal take after investigating and asking questions etc. is that it will work fine with any of these fluids in the front axle!!!

No need to worry about the wet brakes. The front axle doesn't have any brakes, only the rear has wet brakes.

I believed it did have brakes on the front, but after looking at it I don't see any signs of brake cables or hoses to control the brakes with . If all I have is gears and bearings then the 80W90 gear oil is what I will use.
I checked two local dealers for the parts (prices etc.) one recomended SUDT or UDT the other the 80W90 gear oil .

Very few tractors have hyd or mechanical brakes on the front. Most rely on 4wd coupling to the rear brakes and/or engine braking / tranny braking ( hst ).. etc.

I have seen a few rare cases of hyd brakes on a tractor.. but they were conversion units.. not regular production models.

My dealer recccommended 85/90 wt gear oil. They said if it was going to be real cold (like in the zero degree farinheit) for long periods of time then SUDT. Otherwise save my money.
